The presidency of Mr. Donald Trump and its aftermath have done a great service to these United States of America. That service was to bring the relative fragility of our republic form of constitutional democracy to the attention of the American public. It's well past time for our Constitution and the thoughts of those who drafted it and acted as its apologists to be carefully examined and the implicit warnings heeded.

Stay safe 'n well 'n remember the Big 5.

Season's best to all.

Our Republic isn't fragile. The transition of power didn't even miss a beat. Maybe some bedwetters got scared or something; I don't know.

You are correct in thanking Trump. Without him, we would still be unaware of just how much our government is controlled by a relative handful of individuals. He flushed them out by doing nothing more than threatening their money and power sources.

But if you think altering our Constitution will correct the problem, you are wrong. We should be adhering to our constitution and strictly enforcing our laws.

Hi, dex4974.

Thank you for taking time to reply.

Regards, stay safe 'n well 'n remember the Big 5.

The OP is right. We got 18th and 19th century laws, 20st century institutions and 21st century problems

If we were strictly enforcing our laws, Trump would be in jail, many times over. So enough with your BS.

Hey no problem. I'm glad I was able to clear things up for you.

So who did he flush out? Got any names or did they simply go into hiding?

People tried making up offenses and laws to put Trump in jail...many times. They failed.

But those who control the government...and constantly violate our laws and the Constitution...keep getting away with it.

For example: James Wolfe, a guy who avoided punishment for deliberately leaking a classified document to his media honeypot by threatening to blow the whistle on the various Senators he worked for, got a slap on the wrist for "lying to the FBI".

The fact that you don't know who they are only illustrates that you either suffer from lack of knowledge or pretend not to know things.

This shows just how effective their control of the government really is.

That's not bad considering everyone who lied to the FBI in the Trump era was convicted and then pardoned by the asshole in chief. As we all know, Trump went around the pardon office in the DOJ, just doing as he pleased. So yes, we need to strictly enforce our laws for everyone.

Another Mycroft dodge. You are consistent!

???

Who says the President has to get permission from the DOJ to pardon someone?

Now see? THIS is a very good example of what I've been talking about: People tried making up offenses and laws to put Trump in jail...many times. They failed.

"That service was to bring the relative fragility of our republic form of constitutional democracy to the attention of the American public."

Now, we only need to bring not only the fragility but the Rep/con form of threat itself to the attention of the ill-named Democrats.

I agree that the Constitution probably needs to be revised somehow but our problem isn't necessarily the Constitution; it's a problem of culture. We have one group of people that increasingly rejects democratic values because they fear that democracy (as it is practiced in most of the modern world) puts them at a disadvantage. They would rather have the perception of having more power and higher social standing than to have an inclusive democracy for all, because they believe they are *more* American, more entitled to liberty and the fruits of economic growth, than others. A new constitution can't solve that problem. Only people can.

You seemed more of a "the United States of America" person, more than a "these United States of America" person, but it does make me happy you posted this.

That lawyer who falsified official documents (re: Carter Page) to get a FISA warrant to spy on Trump's campaign, just got his good standing restored so he can practice law.
There are 2 sets of rules and THAT is another thing Trump exposed.

No one has "many times" or at any times made up any "laws or offenses" to put the orange shit gibbon aka trump in jail.

No one who knows realizes the President does not need permission from the DoJ to grant Presidential Clemency to anyone.

What the orange shit gibbon aka trump did though was in a grossly partisan manner step around the usual practices of how grants of clemency requests and recommendations have been handled in past presidencies, for the last 125 years.

This lead to many political preferences apparently being the primary criteria for his grants of clemency.

As I said, you should be thanking Trump for exposing the control and corruption we've been living with for the past 40 years or so.

I'm talking about these "usual practices" you speak of.

Hi, multivita-man!

Mr. Benjamin Franklin's admonition comes to mind.

Yes, it's clear that the US is in desperate need of electoral reform. I propose the following:
Scrap the entirely undemocratic Electoral College.
Ban corporate and lobby group campaign 'donations' (bribes).
Limit private donations with a maximum cap.
Ban negative advertising about the opposition.
Give equal but limited airtime to candidates to lay out their manifesto.
Encourage the adoption of additional political parties.
Put an end to the guy with the most money getting the top job.
