**** Texas, **** the gop, **** Abbott.

Fascist little subhuman freaks.

The warrants are a big show. It’s only in state lines and it’s not a criminal warrant.

"The warrants apply only within state lines, making them largely symbolic"

I think our MAGA comrades have a term for this, virtue signaling.

This is a big dog and pony show, for the most part.

Maybe they can send ICE agents after them.

What a typically republican corrupt and chicken-shit way to get your way.....FORCE. Won't work. Every single democratic lawmaker needs to leave Texas until whenever it takes to stop the repukes from trying once again to give themselves an unfair advantage...

Protecting a pedo potus is not a “big dog and pony show to me”, but we expect that from 3rd party lefties back to 2000.
Yes, but the whole leaving the State and then issuing warrants is. In the end, they'll come back or the Republicans will find some way to push it forward. They can't stay out of State until the midterms are over.

What a circus, who do these republicans think they are arresting members of the other party. Sad that many on the right see nothing wrong with it. They also see nothing wrong with so much gerrymandering from the gop, the Democrats will be all but shut out of any possible pick up of seats.

While we’re talking maps, i haven’t seen you weigh in on your ‘commission’ CO (and AZ) map(s) that heavily favor(s) GOPs.

The map flipped the 8th in ‘24, and Gabe Evans had non-stop ads in AM motels when i visited in May.

Meanwhile, Democrats have eight to eleven candidates in primaries against the likes of Evans and Ciscomani—district 6 in AZ.

Arizona’s ‘independent’ commission map is 6-3 GOP, and is replete with one apartheid maneuver after another.

While numbers are involved, this is not a game, and it’s your younger future far more than my 71 years.

Independent commissions do start to move power out of the Legislature. But I think that by this point, we should also be looking to utilize algorithms and such too to help inform the final maps. There needs to be some way to get around the politically motivated gerrymandering.

Hope they don't resist.

Unfortunately, the Supremes have already ruled against everything you float.

Yeah, unfortunately being against math tracks for modern America.

From the OP's reference link:
“You understand that the issues before us, disaster recovery, fighting for the families who lost loved ones in the floods, human trafficking and more, are not abstract policy debates,” Burrows said. “Instead of confronting those challenges, some of our colleagues have fled the state and their duty.”

Too bad declaring the runaways' seats vacant and then holding elections to replace them is so complex and time consuming. Hope they enjoy their extended time away from families and careers.

This is what fascist neo-states tend to do.

This isn't the first time Texas democrats pulled this stunt. I've problem with being able to stop the work of the legislature by just boycotting. I understand the desire to have a quorum, but deliberately blocking the legislature from doing it's job by not attending should not stop business. The Congress can issue a quorum call to require the attendance or the sergeant at arms can arrest the offender. In the U.S. Senate, Rule VI, paragraph 2, states: "No Senator shall absent himself from the service of the Senate without leave".
in Texas, Texas House of Representatives: The House Rules of Procedure allow the Speaker of the House to compel a quorum by locking the doors and having the Sergeant-at-Arms bring absent members back under civil arrest. In 2023, the House also implemented new rules allowing a daily fine of $500 for members who fail to attend sessions without leave to impede House action, in addition to potential reprimand, censure, or expulsion.
So we will see how this goes in TX.

A "sergeant-at-arms" of the Texas Legislature has no jurisdiction to arrest anyone in New York, or Illinois.

You should read the whole article.

I’m fine with arresting them one they return to Texas.

This is going to be copied by other MAGA states, but I'm not saying anything we don't already know.
