Update (0930ET): Texas’s Republican governor, Greg Abbott, has vowed to arrest the Democrat lawmakers who fled the state in an attempt to stop an overhaul of election laws...

“As soon as they come back in the state of Texas, they will be arrested, they will be cabined inside the Texas capitol until they get their job done,” Abbott said.

Awesome read! ZeroHedge is completely triggered. Maybe that case of Miller Lite upsets them.

What's the code of the law that they broke? I never knew it was against the law to fly out of Texas on a private jet.

If they don't come back until the special session is over, there is nothing to arrest them for... You do realize the "arrest" is only to take them to the house chambers... No criminal or civil charges are filed...

Ii don't know how long Abbot will be willing to keep this up. He apparently has aspirations for the WH. While I think that is kind of absurd, he is slowly but surely closing off any rational thought that he would win a general election and make it to the WH.

Yes, it’s going to get passed. One way or other

Do it, then, you voter suppressing ****stick.

Ted's stupid response aside, Texas has NO authority to arrest ANYONE in another state without that states authorization... In the episode he mentions, he fails to disclose that the AG's of Oklahoma and New Mexico told Texas to bugger off...

That's what I was going to ask...what would the charges be?

So then what's the authority to 'arrest' them, to use force to make them go anywhere?

Well if Tyler Durden says it's true then it must be true.

I dont remember anyone running to Mexico to force him to come back to TX when he abandoned his state in a major natural disaster/humanitarian crisis.

Yeah...not a great parallel...but a nice reminder of hypocrisy regarding duty to your constituents and state.

Good enough for me. Put cuffs on them, and throw the keys away. Let's the assholes work like that.

Good luck with that.

I guess for the Democrats, actually verifying whether a person is qualified to vote is just too much.
They need the loser crowd on welfare, bums and illegals to win, I guess.
It's an easy score, just promise a bunch of free shit. Works every time, right Dems?

At least democrats are smart enough to know there is NOTHING about voter id in these bills.. Good lord..

Tired of this political bs on voting between Dems and Reps.

As a Republican I find some of these laws to be detrimental to voters. Don't care what they are registered as.
Till this country gets back to having leaders who care more about the people they serve and less about "The Party", the divide will continue to grow.

- I have no objection to voter ID
- I do have objection to restricting mail in voting, early voting, etc.
- Improve the voting laws when needed and is shown there is a need.

No significant amount of fraud has been proven in our elections to change the results. This partisan bs has got to stop. Shame on elected officials from both sides.

I, too, am mad at that cloud.

I wonder what Robert Paulson has to say about all this.

It was never mentioned to arrest them in other states, Texas House rules allow the sergeant-at-arms to arrest members who are not present at the Capitol for a vote – and the show of disapproval Tuesday could result in the lawmakers' arrest when they land back in the Lone Star State.

I really don't think you want to be using Ted Cruz as a source for lecturing people on fleeing Texas.
The total lack of awareness that cons display time and time again is so entertaining.

They are only "arrested" to escort them back to the house chambers.. There are no criminal or civil charges that will ever be filed...
