The war over voting access that has roiled Georgia is headed next to Texas, where Republican legislators are working through an omnibus elections overhaul package that would dramatically change the way some voters cast a ballot in future contests. The measure has been labeled a priority by both Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R), who controls the state Senate. “We want a system that people can trust, we want it to be accurate, and we want folks to know that it’s accurate,” said state Sen. Bryan Hughes (R), the measure’s prime sponsor. “If folks don’t trust the system, they’re not going to vote.” The bill has generated substantial opposition from Democrats, and — in an echo of Georgia’s experience — from major corporations based in the Lone Star State. “What happened in Georgia yesterday and what we’re starting to see in Texas is part of a nationwide Republican-led effort to suppress the vote,” state House Democratic leader Chris Turner (D) told The Hill last month. “Republicans know that the way for them to extend their power and to continue to hold power at the state and federal level is to change the rules and make it harder for people of color primarily, and other people, to participate in the electoral process.” The 38-page measure is chock-full of provisions that would substantially alter long-standing Texas elections practices.

The Republican legislature of Texas is following the playbook established by the republican legislature of Georgia.

Geez.

Can we at least wait until something is actually done before we start bitching?

Try reading an OP first before you start bitching about it.

Where's the fun in that?

Try following RV's advice from post #4.

In other words, the article is about a 38-page bill they are drafting. The article links to the current version. The article itself breaks the bill down. That is something being "actually done."

" Most of the security measures in this bill are aimed at the vote harvesters, not at the voters,” Hughes said. He cited Gregg County, in his district, where a county commissioner has been charged with 23 felonies in connection to the 2018 Democratic primary. "

So completely and totally about voter suppression?

Well since the only reason Georgia rates a second place in existing voter suppression is because it can always look admiringly at Texas as the King of Voter Suppression.

Most all of this new Legislation is about the Right not liking the results of the 2020 election. They liked no excuse absentee balloting and mail in voting before 2020. Now they don't. What changed. I assume WE ALL HAVE EYES. We know what changed. Heck many State level Repukes are not even making any bones about it. There mantra is "better voters instead of more voters". Well who decides who makes the cut as a better voter and by what standard. We know who they want to decide and we know the standard they want to apply.

Now Georgia....Good Ole' Boy GEORGIA has a Jewish kid and a Black Minister for Senators. THAT IS WHAT CHANGED. The DEMs Nationally got behind their candidate for President and got out the vote for him. THAT IS WHAT CHANGED. So now those Good Ole' Boys who truth be told are not restricted to the Deep South and never were are running scared, more scared than ever about their own misconceptions about what will happen to this country if Whites are not running things and are no longer a Majority but just one of the crowd that makes up a majority Minority populace. THAT in fact is what drives the GOP and so-called Conservatism since Bill Buckley made White Supremacy and in effect Racism part of Conservative Political Philosophy in the mid-20th Century. There it has been ever since. It is what compelled the Blue Dogs to jump ship from the DEM Party to the GOP which was suddenly much more appealing to them. Heck, the GOP was at that point openly supporting White Supremacy. The KKK was still wearing its bed sheets! George Wallace's "Segregation now and Segregation forever" mantra just was not going to fly for very long in what was becoming of the DEM Party and they knew it. So they jumped ship.

White Supremacy is the only enduring aspect of the GOP and so-called Contemporary Conservatism:
- States Rights, Now a mere convenience to be abandoned at a moments notice and readopted as needed. What the "Conservative Crowd" admires now is power, total power up to and including sitting a President who would really be a Monarch at the top of the totem pole.....OBVIOUSLY. One only need look at the progression from Newt Gingrich to Mitch McConnell to Donnie Rotten to see that. Right now, they are going through a renaissance of States Rights as they try to hobble voting rights state by state
- Budget and Deficit discipline, PLEASE.....GONE.....another convenience to be abandoned at a moments notice and readopted as needed
- National Security, sort of a joke since Jan 6th. Sort of hard to make a National Security argument while fomenting, and inciting INSURRECTION
- Cutting taxes, Can't even give them that one any longer as they are only willing to cut taxes based on that tired old Reagan Horse, trickle down, aptly named since any benefit outside of the richest Americans did only just TRICKLE DOWN
- Individual liberties, If you are a Minority or a woman trying to have control of her own body, forget individual liberties. You have the right to live as long as it does not impede every Tom Dick and Larry's right to own a gun. We have more guns than people in this country, an utter disgrace and embarrassment.

So that leaves all of one thing that has endured of the Contemporary Conservatism of the mid-20th Century, White Supremacy and Racial bias. None of us like to admit it because of what it says about all of us whether on the Political Right, Middle or Left. None of us want to really admit the bedrock principle of one of the two major political parties in this country is White Supremacy and Racial Bias on a grand scale.

When you look for reasons through the lens of bias, you will of course find bias.

If instead you look at the actual changes, you might be led to believe that not much can be blamed as vote suppression.

As far as power goes, the Republicans do not have a monopoly on the lust for it. Look no further than whatever party you align.

An entire post of false equivalency. Congratulations. You may just have retired the DP false equivalency trophy. The GOP seeks power for its own sake. It has no idea what to do with it. It simply wants more of it. Does it care if citizens have to drink filthy water from lead pipes and breath crap air? NOPE. Heck NOW it fleeces its own base supporters having adopted the worst aspects of Donnie Rotten's grift campaign. The DEM's seek power but seek it in order to do something with it beyond preserve their own racially biased privilege which is the hallmark of the GOP's power ambitions.

State level oversight of voter registration and voting fraud in Georgia is now given to the AG rather than the Sec State. A fraud hotline is created, also under the the AG. While there are those that actually look at this and opine that this is a good thing, "nothing to see here". Since when! Traditionally in this country state officials REFER the results of their cursory investigations over to their AG IF they consider it appropriate to do so. The AG should not have the role and he most specifically should not be manning some f____ hotline! "Mr AG, I have a fella' here at the polling station that I just don't think is right. Can you send somebody down here to arrest his sorry ass." GIVE ME A BREAK.

The stripping of the powers of the State Election Apparatus and turning the Legislature loose on Election results THEY DON'T LIKE is a laughable absurdity, the means to corrupt elections even more than they have been in Georgia Elections past not less. They have hid them under a Fig Leaf and are parading around the fig leaf as their badge of honor.

Having cut polling places in Minority Communities for years there is now a formula for the number of polling places with drop boxes inside those polling places. So in effect they have possibly turned 9 hour lines to vote in those Minority communities into 5 hour lines to vote with no access to drop boxes unless the polling place is officially open. ANOTHER FIG LEAF.

Equally onerous is the new unlimited challenges rule for Registration Applicants. Any Elector can now challenge any Registration Applicant's Application and keep challenging it regardless of how many times a Registration Application corrects an error or errors on his Application. Now if Georgia really cared about a citizen's voting franchise would Georgia not insist that its Election Apparatus identify any and all issues with an Application at one time, allow the Applicant to correct them at one time and then close the loop by granting a Registration? This is now the modern version of "tell me how many jelly beans are in the jar and I will grant you a Registration". Its the very definition of Jim Crow and its aimed at those that are young and transient, Minorities and transient and Minorities that are regularly removed from the Registration Lists in Georgia. Its another FIG LEAF.

Funny how Kemp used the power of the Sec of State (head of the Georgia Election Apparatus) to usher himself into the Governor's Mansion eliminating 309,000 voters from the Registration Lists in the process and now strips the Sec of State of some powers when it suits him. Good Ole' Boys just doing what Good Ole' Boys do.

As far as false equivalency goes, there must first be a charge of equivalency.

Was there?

TLDR: Irrelevant to my response.

"As far as power goes, the Republicans do not have a monopoly on the lust for it. Look no further than whatever party you align."

The line in bold above from your earlier post suggests that lust for power goes both ways in equal measure with the same intent.

That is an equivalency which is FALSE.

You quoted it even.

Please tell me where with what words did I equate anything? Measure OR intent.

The fact that I mentioned both parties have a lust for power? Is that not true? I made no mention of the lust being equal or anything else.

Your rush to lay blame or otherwise criticize truth is blinding you to what people type?

Assumption is the mother of all **** ups.

its better to head something off at the pass then have to fix it later

Again from your own post. I don't know why I bother with you. Apparently you do not even understand what YOU are posting, never mind what anybody else might reply.

Again, you are engaging in AN EQUIVALENCY that is FALSE. Sorry but I am not going to explain the English Language nor English Grammar to you, though somebody should have.

I do notice that you did not bother to address any single aspect of post #7. You just blathered something about looking through some lens or another.
