Tesla’s nearly $1 trillion new pay plan for Musk would expand his voting power

Should I be surprised that you're an Elmo Fanboi? 😆

No, The Tesla EV is not a "public alternative," and again it's not great for the environment. Better than ICEs, which is like saying "I'd rather have my foot cut off than my entire left leg."

• Zip2: Failure that got him $300m. Is that an accomplishment?
• Founded PayPal. That checks out.
It should be noted that he was actually ousted from leadership at Paypal by Peter Thiel, who went on to make it a success, for being incompetent and a liability; Paypal becoming a titanic payment processor had very little to do with Musk; if anything, his contribution to it was negative.

Also, while Zip2 is indeed a failure, the only reason he ever got the payday was because Derek Proudian clinched the sale over his objections.

Who?

Who?

One has to admit, whomever these random people are, Elon Musk has made more money, launched more rockets and made far more successful and well known companies than either of those people.

He's still a giant loser, and no one should buy his products or support his research, but one has to admit he has done more than Derek what'shisname...

Not knowing who Peter Thiel is sounds like an issue with general ignorance.

I will admit Derek Proudian is certainly more niche, though he was indisputably the person who truly got Elon his start (aside from Daddy's start up capital); without him, nothing else would have followed because Musk would have continued to run his already failing Zip2 company into the absolute ground instead of de facto scamming Compaq out of hundreds of millions.

Oracle rises 36% today, giving Larry Ellison a paper net worth of $400 billion. During the Dotcom bubble, I don’t recall any of the “Four Horsemen” (Dell, Cisco Systems, Microsoft, or Intel) rising that much in a single day. For a mega-cap stock to do that is extraordinary, especially since the top and bottom line numbers it actually reported were below expectations. The rise was all based on guidance—fluff. This is bubble material, people. The greed factor is on overdrive.

Ive only credited him with getting infrastructure and getting people to warm up to EVs. You are putting way too much into my mouth.
Or... I'm responding to other posters who are making those claims.

I responded to Logophile, and you responded to my post.

Well, Visbek, nobody can accuse you of being lazy here so I salute you in that regard. Now I'm gonna tell you what I believe to be a sobering truth that nobody wants to hear, but it's a reality
Here we go

Giant achievements are orchestrated by giant egos - most of them narcissistic - but that's the price we as a species pays for the Avant-guard.
Sigh

First, that's just nonsense.

Second, as usual you're just pulling in extraneous vague irrelevant claims rather than addressing what I'm saying.

You can hate him, but the grandchildren won't.
Yes, people love Henry Clay Frick. No, wait, he was one of the "Robber Barons" and yes, today people still know he was a bastard.

Anyway. Your weird unfalsifiable claims have not refuted any of the facts I listed. So here they are again! Please try to enjoy each fact equally.
- The only thing he invented was PayPal
- EVs are better than ICEs, but still aren't great for the environment
- His robotaxi, humanoid robot, self-driving cars, solar systems etc are all vaporware
- BYD is running rings around Tesla
- Tesla's sales are dropping like a stone
- Musk has a long and well-documented history of exaggerating products and blowing past deadlines
- Many of his companies, like Boring, are failures or vaporware
- He pushed Hyperloop not because it's good tech, but to thwart more environmentally beneficial
- He gutted numerous federal agencies, that have oversight over his businesses
- He's a delusional drug abuser
- He's facilitating a fascist takeover of the USA

And so on.

It did not escape my attention, by the way, that you utterly failed to refute any of the specific facts I raised.

So sorry to break this to you, but history is unlikely to be filled with Musk Fanbois.

I did not know that. Scratch two accomplishments off the list. :D

Ok.

But none of these nobodies have as many NASA contracts or as many non carbon pollution vehicles or as many grid scale batteries nor as many satellites helping Ukraine fight Russia or as many solar power deployments as Elon...

And literally he did all of these things, and whatstheguyyounamed haven't done even one of these things?

No wonder no one has heard of them. 🤔

It doesn't concern me if you don't know of them, though you should, just so long as you understand that Elon has failed upward all his life, and overwhelmingly through the collective talent, intellect and hard work of people far more capable than him.

If you say so.

Imagine if these guys had failed upwards so hard; we'd have more electric vehicles, more cheap rockets for NASA, more satellites for Ukraine, more batteries storing renewable energy, more solar roofs creating clean electricity....

But this Derek Proudian guy did stuff for humanity, right? And Peter Theil is known for Facebook... which is almost as good as electric cars or solar panels, I guess.

Hopefully they begin to fail upwards much, much harder than they have, because Facebook isn't going to be worth much without satellite internet and carbon neutral power and transportation.
