Tensions erupt in Ukraine as Zelenskyy sanctions former leader Poroshenko

KYIV — Divisions flared in Kyiv on Thursday, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree sanctioning a former president and several wealthy businessmen.

Chocolate baron and former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, a political opponent and longtime nemesis of Zelenskyy, was sanctioned on suspicion of "high treason" and assisting a terrorist organization — prompting criticism and allegations of a "politically motivated" witch hunt.

Zelenskyy first announced the intention to impose sanctions on the ex-president and politically connected businesspeople in a video published Wednesday evening.

For anyone that isn't familiar with Petro Poroshenko, he is the former president of Ukraine, soundly defeated in 2019 by Vladimir Zelensky. I have loosely followed the turmoil in Ukraine when the first Russian tanks started to arrive on the border in Crimea. I would see Poroshenko frequently in live interviews from Ukraine. Every Ukrainian President before Zelensky was tainted with corruption, and Poroshenko is no exception. He's a wealthy billionaire oligarch, which is funny since in his reelection campaign, Poroshenko promised to rid the country of oligarchs.

SO Zelenskyy is engaging in Lawfare and Trump should put a stop to this. :sneaky:

Not verified, but plausible, “nice little country you have there.”
How will this work if Ukraine falls completely under Russia realm?

Porpshenko is corrupt as ****, maybe the most coprrupt President Ukraine has had, which is an achievement, because they have had Yanukovich. But is he a traitor? Well, what are the evidence? Could I see him betray his country? Honestly, yes, it is Poroshenko, he'd do anything for more money. But also, I kinda want to see what evidence they have for this.
