Ted Cruz compares FCC Chair Carr to Mafia boss over Jimmy Kimmel

It’s rare that I agree with anything Ted Cruz says, but i actually said something very similar to Mrs V when i heard what Carr said.

Cruz actually called it.

“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr said. “These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or, you know, there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”

“I got to say, that’s right out of ‘Goodfellas.’ That’s right out of a mafioso coming into a bar, going, ‘Nice bar you have here, it would be a shame if something happened to it,’” Cruz said, referring mob-movie classic directed by Martin Scorsese, which was based on real-life events.

“Let me tell you if the government gets in the business of saying, ‘We don’t like what you the media says. We’re going to ban you from the airwaves if you don’t say what we like.’ That will end up bad for conservatives,” Cruz warned.

It will be bad for everyone.

Surprising, since I remember him being one of the supporters in 2020 suggesting ways to steal the election from Biden. Good for him, though.
I loved when Donald accused him of massive electoral fraud when Cruz came first and Donald second in the 2016 Ohio GOP Primary.

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas sharply criticized Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr.

"He says, 'We can do this the easy way, or we can do this the hard way' ... that's right out of Goodfellas," Cruz said of Carr.

Cruz's comments put him at odds with President Donald Trump, who applauded Kimmel's suspension and later called Carr "outstanding."

How do our tireless MAGA defenders feel about being exposed as even less principled than Ted fricking Cruz?

What's significant is Cruz's broader explanation:

Cruz said on the podcast that he’s no fan of Kimmel’s, and that he is “thrilled that he was fired” over his comments about Kirk.

“But let me tell you, if the government gets in the business of saying, ‘We don’t like what you the media have said, we’re going to ban you from the airwaves if you don’t say what we like,’ that will end up bad for conservatives.” is the corrected quote.

It appears his concern is his own people will begin to question everything if Trump Inc. goes deeper. It's not as daring as I first thought, but, he's still hinting at a MAGA revolt!

There's a limit to all things. Trump is fast approaching his. There's been scandal, trust issues, stupid quotes, bad decisions, hurled insults, bad companions, lies, empty boasts, more stupid quotes, sex scandal, more lies, confused utterings and general disregard for the real needs of the majority of Americans - an economy at least performing as well as Canada! All while the economy tanks.

This wasn’t just about one comment—it was about refusing to bend to political pressure. Kimmel saw the demand for an apology as a test of artistic and civic integrity, and chose principle over career security. His refusal to play the game exposed the machinery behind the censorship: FCC threats, affiliate pressure, and corporate cowardice. Of course it is impossible for MAGAs to recognize integrity since its been years since anyone in their party displayed it.
Oh of course. As a leftist Kimmel can be nothing but the pinnacle of virtue and integrity. You libs are just too damn funny. Let me explain what really happened here. Kimmel lied and he was going to double down on his lie and his bosses said no thank you. So now hes out of a job and wants to be elevated to victim status. But hes not a victim, hes a lying piece of shit so hateful and consumed with TDS that he destroyed his own career.

You completely misread what he was saying.

Nonsense.

I don't like it either, it wasn't appropriate for his position.

"tireless MAGA defenders" --- that is rich, coming from one of the most liberal political forums on the internet.
You hang out in alot of other political forums then?

I loved when Donald accused him of massive electoral fraud when Cruz came first and Donald second in the 2016 Ohio GOP Primary.
And they had the argument about who had the bigger peepee, and Trump called Cruz's wife ugly. Iirc.

Ted Cruz can go pound sand.
He's kissed Trump's ass far too much to take anything he says seriously.

I agree with the first sentence but not the second. Kimmel was apparently fired because he was asked to apologize, refused, and said he was going to say things even worse. So they suspended him. And if thats how it went down then the TDS infected, douche bag Kimmel got what he deserved.

And Cruz is also correct. Trump should be weakening the power and authority of these alphabet agencies, not using them to control what is said.
Its gonna get worse and those who voted for Trump can be thanked for allowing this to happen.

What are the odds that Trump pressure will be put on Cruz to walk back this statement? I'm betting he'll be back on the reservation before the weekend is over.
I dunno. Cruz can be pretty stubborn. We'll see.

Why do you people believe a word Ted Cruz says? We know who Ted Cruz is. Today he's against Trump. Tomorrow, or next week, he'll meet with Trump and sing a different lie.

Screw Ted Cruz.
Some bill or legislation will come up to give more power to FCC and Trump to stifle the alphabet media and Ted Cruz will be first in line to sign it.

You hang out in alot of other political forums then?
I'm sure the others are echo chamber MAGA forums where they heap praise on Trump and anything bad around the world are blamed on leftists.

And they had the argument about who had the bigger peepee, and Trump called Cruz's wife ugly. Iirc.
Yeah, that was around the time that Donald said that Ted’s father was complicit in the assassination of JFK.

It should have been clear to everyone back then what a low class mental case Trump was. But no, they elected the bastard.

You've mentioned the bolded part a couple of times.

Is there some documentation of these conversations between Kimmel and his employer? Because it makes some difference.

Still, Cruz is right. Carr's comments were over-reach. As sickened as any of us might be by the glee with which some people greeted Kirk's murder, it isn't good for anybody for the government to get involved and put pressure on speech, as witless and humorless as it might have been.

Trump in a nutshell.
