sourceProsecutors filed an appeal Tuesday against the Taipei District Court’s decision to release ex-President Chen Shui-bian without bail after his indictments on corruption and money-laundering. The prosecutors of the Special Investigation Division motivated their appeal by saying Chen was suspected of serious crimes, while there was also a risk that he would collude with other suspects and destroy evidence.
“All prosecutors think there is a need for ex-President Chen Shui-bian to stay in custody,” Prosecutor General Chen Tsung-ming told reporters Tuesday.

The former president’s office denied he had criticized former Interior Minister Yu Cheng-hsien for reportedly admitting to everything after only two days of prison. Yu spent 43 days in custody. He reportedly leaked a name list of experts to a businessman involved in a bid for a construction project. Former First Lady Wu Shu-jen allegedly accepted money from the businessman in return.
In a rare move for a DPP lawmaker, Chiu Yi-ying leaped to Yu’s defense and publicly criticized the former president and his relatives Tuesday.
“Chen and especially his wife should face the judiciary, stop telling lies and stop playing with the feelings of their Democratic Progressive Party supporters,” she told reporters.
In a move directed against Chen, lawmakers from the ruling Kuomintang said they had reached an agreement to demand former presidents lose their benefits if found guilty of corruption in first instance by a district court.
Which is exactly what abian is doing, lying lying and still lying to rowdy up the DPP base and make a big ruckus so as to gain special accommodations, as is in this case.
