Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts suffers seizure, hospitalized

By Mark Sherman
Associated Press

WASHINGTON - Chief Justice John Roberts suffered a seizure at his summer home in Maine today, causing a fall that resulted in minor scrapes, Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said.

He will remain in a hospital in Maine overnight.

Roberts, 52, was taken by ambulance to the Penobscot Bay Medical Center, where he underwent a "thorough neurological evaluation, which revealed no cause for concern," Arberg said in a statement.

Roberts had a similar episode in 1993, she said.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. EDT on a dock near the home in Port Clyde on Maine's Hupper Island. Port Clyde, which is part of the town of St. George, is about 90 miles by car northeast of Portland, midway up the coast of Maine.

Roberts was taken by private boat to the mainland and then transferred to an ambulance, St. George Fire Chief Tim Polky said.

"He was conscious and alert when they put him in the rescue (vehicle)," Polky said. The hospital, in Rockport, did not immediately return a call from The Associated Press.

Named to the court by President Bush in 2005, Roberts is the youngest justice on a court in which the senior member, John Paul Stevens, is 87. Bush was informed of the hospitalization by his chief of staff, Josh Bolten, the White House said.

A seizure! Heavens! that sounds serious.
Perhaps he should retire.

Considering that the one he had in 93 didn't affect him, I doubt this one will. Good to know that he's got your best wishes for a quick recovery though.

Must be rough having so much hate inside you celebrate someone having a seizure. It also seems that when there are soldiers killed or captured or a car bomb kills a large number of civilians, it puts the same folks in a giddy mood. I just don't understand it.

Who are these "same folks" you mention? And I didn't see Ten doing any celebrating in her post (from what I got out of it), maybe you're seeing something that I didn't see?

Update:

Bush Assured Roberts Doing OK

Good to hear he's doing okay. From what I heard on the news, it seems he has epilepsy? Can anyone confirm this?

What I heard was that they usually define epilepsy based upon 2 or more seizures, so it sounds like he could be labeled as having it, although with the two occuring more than 10 years apart, I just dont' think it would apply to him.

TOJ, what are you talking about? Because 1069 suggests he retire, somehow that equates to HATE? What a joke.

No, he is not an epileptic. I forgot the term used to describe his seizure, but it means "of unknown origin".

This is true.

Do you have anything substantive to say on this topic? Yeah, I didn't think so.

Here is one of many examples from the blogosphere:
Chief Justice John Roberts has died in his summer home in Maine. No, not really, but we know you have your fingers crossed.

Wonkette

IMO two of the first three posts on this thread sounded similar and I would bet several others had the same feelings.

I heard this same kind of crap from the other side when Johnson had his stroke. It was disgusting then and it's disgusting now.

In case anybody would like another example. This one from DemocraticUnderground.com :

LOL First, the DemocraticUnderground is full of nutjobs, so I wouldn't taken anything they said seriously. Second, I see what you're doing--trying to justify your hateful post towards 1069. Sorry, but imposing thoughts/feelings expressed by other people (other than the poster you are attacking) is wholly insufficient and rather ridiculous. You made assumptions on what 1069 meant. Why not ask her what she meant instead of projecting your own hatred on her.

Yes, and the day that prominent Democrats accuse a sitting Republican President of being a rapist and a murderer, you might have a leg to stand on when accusing libs of hate-mongering.

****NEWS FLASH TO TOJ******

There are nut jobs to the left and right of you.
