That is incorrect. You do not have a First Amendment Right to force others to attend instruction that violates their beliefs but not yours.
Tell me, does a religious group have the right to tell a public library that they can’t have books about sex , or alcohol etc because their child might be offended? No? Why not? That’s what you are arguing. That society must conform to your version of society lest your child come in contact with things you don’t agree with. By extension , television programs must conform to your moral code lest your child see say a gay couple in a commercial , or Walmart can’t sell books with gay characters because your child might go pick it up , etc.
That is literally the opposite of what's happening, and, it's frankly bizarre that this is the critique you've chosen. Acknowledging parents' and children's (including you, Muslims, Jews, and Christians) rights to not have the State push values on them by letting them opt out of particular instruction does not, in any way, impose religious instruction on your kids.
Right see above. So now your requirement is that Walmart has to have another Walmart, an “alternative” Walmart where you can shop without your kids can’t see books with gay characters in them . Perhaps Muslims don’t see pork etc.
A television station or radio station has to produce “ an alternative station” that produces only the content you find acceptable .
"Then go to a private secular school" would, I believe, be the appropriate application of your earlier response
Except public schools are secular by definition
They are not supposed to conform to religious beliefs.
However, no - they aren't required to deny your children books or even avoid teaching them. They just can't force students who don't agree with those beliefs to be instructed in them against their will. Given your earlier complaints, it seems that is what actually offends you, here. People with whom you agree have lost some of their power to make the next generation unlike their parents, with whom you disagree.
But you ARE forcing my children to abide by your beliefs.
You are basically requiring that my school district build an “ alternative” school so tgat your child can be taught according to your religious beliefs .
Let’s see how this decision works.
Tge teacher wants to read the book the “ Purim superhero”
If she does. The school has to provide an alternative classroom, another teacher and other teaching materials for those tgat opt out.
Then a teacher in history class is wants to teach the history of the Spanish Inquisition. And so tge school has to provide an alternative classroom for those students.
Oh wait until biology and evolution.
Teaching about dinosaurs?
And then. What happens when kids start opting out just “ saying” it is against their religion?
Does the school have to have a religious scholar for each denomination to determine if the opt out is legit or not?
This opt out is a logistical nightmare for schools and will result in the school being forced to teach based on a religious model.
