Suit: NJ town officials harassed cop about weight -- Newsday.com
SEASIDE PARK, N.J. (AP) _ A former police sergeant has sued his former department and the borough council for harassing him about being overweight.
In a lawsuit filed in federal court Thursday, James C. Citta claims he was told by former Seaside Park Police Chief William Beining III that his weight would prevent him from ever being promoted.
The harassment continued even after Citta underwent gastric bypass surgery in 2001, the suit claimed. He suffered retaliation for giving legitimate parking tickets to firefighters and lifeguards and was threatened with sanctions if he spoke to borough council members about police issues, even though he was allowed to do so, the suit said.
