Three retired U.S. generals added their names Tuesday to growing calls for the U.S. military to repeal its ban on transgender service members, arguing that doing so would not harm the armed forces’ readiness or require major changes to administrative or medical policies. In a joint statement, Maj. Gen. Gale S. Pollock, former acting surgeon general of the Army; Brig. Gen. Clara Adams Ender, former chief of the U.S. Army Nurse Corps; and Brig. Gen. Thomas A. Kolditz, a professor emeritus at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, said “allowing transgender personnel to serve openly is administratively feasible and will not be burdensome or complicated.”
“Implementation could proceed immediately and will be successful in its execution,” they added.
The comments accompanied the release of a report by the generals for the Palm Center, a think tank at San Francisco State University’s political science department, that looked at the policies of the 18 countries that do allow transgender military service as well as U.S. studies including the Pentagon’s own guidance on lifting “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell."
The report notes that an estimated 15,500 transgender members are already serving in the military (PDF) just not openly, and that because Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel has expressed openness to reviewing the ban last May, the U.S. is likely to join countries such as Australia, Germany, Israel and the U.K. that currently do allow transgender citizens to serve.

So more Generals signing on that the military should remove the transgender ban. What do you guys think? Should transgender troops be allowed to serve openly in the US Military.

Ridiculous political posturing.
There is nothing sacred what so ever to a leftist.
How many transgender people are there in the country? How many are of the appropriate age to serve? How many of those are of the capable of satisfactorily performing the whatever physical and mental tasks that need to be performed? How many of those actually want to join the military? I'm guessing we're talking about an insignificant number of people - a few thousand if I had to guess. If catering to them means lots of money and organizational upset it hardly seems worth the effort.
The proud United States Military, now turned into an organzation for the Freak Brigade.
The military is one of the last of America's institutions to be ruined by Obama and his whackadoodle ideals. Now he can check it off of his "Things to Destroy" list.

I think it's the most idiotic idea I've ever heard.

Of course they should be able to serve. It's the effing military, not a genital game.
Are they lining up to serve?
Why? What makes them not able or suited to fight?

It has nothing to do with ability. There's more to a unit than the ability of individual soldiers to fight. When you join the service, you're no longer an individual. A military element is a family unit, established by the family members living together.
Just another lie from the Obama administration.
BTW: None of the three retired Army officers quoted have ever served in combat arms.
It's just more of Obama and the left using the military for social engineering experimentation.
Its a lie that 3 retired Military Generals signed a statement and a study done found these findings?
And I'm sure they can find three hundred former and active duty flag officer who would sign a statement rebuking the study.
You do remember how DADT was repealed in Congress don't you ? The Obama White House cooked the numbers of a survey of the troops and then lied to Congress. But the Obama White House got caught by the DOD Inspector Generals Office.
