Stockton cop earns $100K in Overtime!!!

Really? Because, ya see..... that really brings the topic of discussion off the topic we are discussing. Although I was wondering who would ask.
As a consulation I will tell you my favorite show is 24 and my shoe size is 11 (generally) :2razz:

You just barely scraped thru college, right?

Yes pop culture references!

She should be paid for the hours she worked, whatever amount that is. Some capitalist you are.

Of course they should. But, someone obviously has some cost effect crunching to do this year. If that lady is making 200k+ year she better be saving babies and bringing down kingpins for her to keep that salary up yearly. But, as long as her **** smells peachy keen there is nothing wrong with paying her what is due this year.

You give me 200k and I bet I will find the will to seek out and infiltrate any mafia you want around my town.

She's gaming the inefficient behemoth of government, what do you expect her to do? Easy pickings.

Who is going to stop her exactly? The politicians will get around to correcting it in 6 years, and will ensure that they create new loopholes for people so no worries.

They could have filled that time with a straight time person and given someone another job, whose performance would have been statistically better because the wouldn't be working so much overtime. If there is any "blame" at such expenditures it's the institution, not the individual.

Well.... yes. But there is that LITTLE voice telling me that something isnt right with the whole thing. That a large amout of money was taken from the taxpayer for no reason.

Taken? are you implying the money was stolen?
No reason? what does THAT mean?

Ok... I JUST called their PD.
Her regular hours were
M-F 7-3 ORRRRRRRR 12-10

The people I spoke with agreed with me that they can NOT understand how she got that large amount of overtime.

If YOU want to call ask for the traffic dept. and ask for a Sgt on Duty: http://www.stocktongov.com/police/

Wow, Stockton, CA. I spent a night there in the can. I was arrested in Tracy, but their jail wasn't big enough.

It's obvious to me now that I need to return and find employment in law enforcement. California Gold in them there hills.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, 100k doesn't really go that far in CA.

They actually TALKED to you? a civilian? Who did you talk to? He could likely get fired for that....

Personally, I have no problem compensating police officers who are well trained and dedicated to their professions. If the pay scale were what it should be for this line of work, perhaps more high quality people would enter it. And while some libertarians might say that they and they alone should be responsible for their own safety (and to a certain extent, they are right) quality policing is absolutely essential in modern society -- especially one that is increasingly urbanized.

I can't believe how many posts of yours I have thanked in this thread considering previous disagreements we have had. Thank you for this, as well... I am pretty much in total agreement with you on this entire thread.

Quality law enforcement requires adequate salaries to attract professionals to dedicade themselves to a very difficult, dangerous, and complex line of work.

Or it means that there is a problem on that stretch of road with traffic violations and/or accidents. I drive on National Highway 6 on my commute to work and I see people violating traffic regulations, some of them dangerously, nearly every day. I would like to see MORE enforcement than currently exists on that highway, not less.

I agree. That is shocking. That is a violation of the rights of the employee. I can't imagine working for anyone in the States that would simply give out such information to any random caller.

You do realize that it is well known and published that cops have ZERO RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY? You did know that right? Their job is for the good of society at large, not any individual.

So yes, personal safety is YOUR job, not theirs. That's why you can't sue if you're robbed and the cops take a long time to get there. It's not their job to come save your ass, whether you like that or not.

Okay, first of all, the words "proof" and "FreeRepublic" cannot be used in the same post.

Second, the police may not be legally responsible for personal safety (debatable) but they still do a good job of protecting it sometimes.
