Republican state Rep. Kip Smith was arrested early Friday morning in Buckhead and charged with DUI, according to an Atlanta police report obtained by Channel 2 Action News.
Drinking isn't illegal. Not that the bigger issue isn't valid. He is still being paid with taxpayers money and breaking the law.
His positions are irrelevant for me though. Those who create the laws should be held to a very uncompromising standard when they break them.
Not to state the obvious, but drinking and driving is illegal.
So, it seems to me that if substance abuse disqualifies one from government aid, it should also disqualify one from government service. I'm sure the Kipper will be resigning shortly.

Drug testing him would have come back negative. (as far as we know).
Good thing they made him blow into a tube instead, right?
Just a guess...but with all the usual suspects coming out to hammer him...he is a republican...right?
OMG!! Thats horrible. Liberals must ****ing HATE the Kennedy types...Disgusting vermin...Yeah and he was born to wealth and privilege. He took the Georgia House seat vacated by his daddy who became the Director of Transportation. The system will make certain the 27 year old state representative skates as lightly as possible.

What makes this newsworthy? How about the fact that it was Kip Smith who has been pushing for all welfare recipients in Georgia to be drug tested. You know, I have a better idea. How about drug testing all legislators in Georgia, as a condition for them to keep their jobs? If it is fair to test welfare recipients, then it is only fair that those who made that law be subject to the same law.

You seem to miss the hypocrisy aspect of it. Of course members of both parties **** up all the time, but it's only hypocrisy when you preach about something and then get busted doing the very thing (or in this case a similar thing) you were preaching about. That's the Republican's calling card: the anti-gay crusader literally caught with his pants down (wide stance) ... or hounding the President over an affair, while he's cheating on his own wife....

Really? Is that what happened? He believes welfare recipients should be drug tested. He got popped on a dui for drinking while driving. He is neither a welfare recipient, nor unemployed...and last I checked...alcohol isnt illegal. No one is excusing his DUI...its just idiotic of you and others to use his very real mistake to claim he is a hypocrite about his stand on drug testing. You seem to miss the hypocrisy aspect of it. You know...its actually REALLY funny you keep bringing up Clinton and the whole 'pants down' thing. While you want to call it hypocrisy, you DO get the Clinton Lewinsky thing was NOT about having an affair...it was about lying under oath...while your hero was on trial...for having his sweatpants down around his ankles jerking off and then asking a state trooper to send a camapign staffer in to see him...and then standing up and letting the towel over his junk fall to the ground and asking the camapign staff worker, without the benefit of wooing, to blow him...right? Thats the guy you keep rushing to bring up...a guy who molested a child, admittedly stuck a cigar in her vag and smoked it, a guy accused of sexual harassment (hey...speaking of hypocrites...I thought liberal types were supposed to be championing the rights of women?). A guy accused of sexually assaulting a whyite house employee on the day of her husbands funeral...a guy who was accused of raping another campaign staffer and a guy that has had multitple extramarital affairs, all denied and chalked up to nothing more than a 'vast right wing conspiracy'.You seem to miss the hypocrisy aspect of it. So this guy was preaching against DUI while the Democrats are for DUI? Or they have no opinion on DUI?
Would it be correct to say that we all agree that DUI is wrong and that whoever does it should suffer the consequences? That most people stray occasionally but we should have some sense of proportion about the sins committed and apply them equally?
We are all aware of the hypocrisies that exist among those with political interests and with that in mind I doubt that you would have mentioned this had he shared your politics. Hypocrisy for others but not for you? That seems to be the case here.
