The State Department on Tuesday expressed concerns over the makeup of the new interim Afghan government announced by the Taliban, including the lack of female leaders and the past actions of some of those appointed to top posts.

A State Department spokesperson said in a statement shared with The Hill that although the Taliban "has presented this as a caretaker cabinet," the U.S. "will judge the Taliban by its actions, not words."

"We have made clear our expectation that the Afghan people deserve an inclusive government," the spokesperson added.

The State Department is now scolding the Taliban for not having enough diversity and inclusion in their terrorist organization. I'm not sure what they expected to happen when the country was handed over, but this seems like a weak response.

We should have built a female military there.

Not sure the nation was handed over to them since they controlled the vast majority of it when we left.

We can voice our concerns, they still will do as they wish...and we can also refuse to recognize their government authority since it was obtained via a coup. We have their money....they won't last long without it.

Seems a really odd thing to be focused on when 4 of the 5 (I think that's correct) were released from Gitmo (worst of the worst terrorists) in exchange for Bergdhal.
So much for 'woke' sensibilities being connected to reality and sensible priorities I guess. 🤷‍♂️

Terrorists gonna do what terrorists do. As long as there is nothing more powerful than them to remove them they won't leave power. Demands will come next, then killings.

without money, their government will soon collapse. Their are competing groups for power...so, they won't last long unless they cede on certain things.

It looks like there's a decent chance that China will make friends and prop them up to profit from the situation.

oh, I am not sure about that...China will be there long enough to extract what benefits them and then drop them like yesterday's news.

The Taliban on Tuesday said they would grant amnesty for all Afghans and called on women to join government offices, an apparent move to gain support from local populations who remain fearful of a return to the restrictive laws against women and girls from the Taliban’s rule more than two decades ago. Enamullah Samangani, a member of the Taliban’s cultural commission, explained that the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan with full dignity and honesty has announced a complete amnesty for all Afghanistan, especially those who were with the opposition or supported the occupiers for years and recently,” according to The Associated Press.
The Taliban official also said that women have been the “the main victims of the more than 40 years of crisis in Afghanistan” and that the insurgent group "doesn’t want the women to be the victims anymore.” “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is ready to provide women with environment to work and study, and the presence of women in different [government] structures according to Islamic law and in accordance with our cultural values,” he added, the AP reported.

The link GummyVitamins' posted also noted that the State Department's words were in direct respond to this prior statement by the Taliban. Naturally, he declined to mention that.

But hey, when your purpose in posting is simply trying to annoy non-Trumpists with another stupid partisan attack on Biden...... 🤷

Yeah, you just totally owned those libs.

Or maybe he wants us to go back into Afghanistan to use force to make the Taliban put women in power and he's legit mad that the State Dept. chose to use words to reply to words? lol, right. Another bad faith post; "I was told to hate Biden" spam. . . .

I suspect they'd have been a little less keen to stand down at corrupt commanders' orders.

I find it stunning that the State Department thought there would be even a single female in the Taliban government. It’s absurd.

Embarassing.

Perhaps they could start with 'don't hold our citizens hostage' and 'stop beheading people', and work their way up to diversity.

I am not very trusting of the Taliban...I guess it comes from their history and some of their present actions as well. The Taliban forbid females from receiving an education or working in previous times....and they would kill them if they were caught becoming literate. I would suspect that some have moderated their views, but they are having a horrific time spreading the news to other Taliban groups....they need to establish a government with laws and penalties for violating those laws...including Taliban that violate said laws....then they need to work very hard on literacy rates and life expectancy in their country.

because the taliban would be BETTER if it had more women? That's the difference between a humane government, and well...the taliban? Men?

Sounds like to me that our state department is a ****ing joke. If they're going to play this game, at least show some balls and voice your concerns over the lack of christians, jews, and hindus in their gov.

our State department has always been fairly out of touch with reality...it didn't start with this administration.

You ever see that episode of American Dad where Stan moves the fam to Saudi Arabia?

LOL. He and Steve are having such an awesome time that they decide to burn the passports and stay there forever.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Say what you want but it would have *some* advantages.

Womens lib is a pretty laughable notion really, made possible by centuries of work and sacrifice: BY MEN.

Men built the railroads, blasted roads through the Rockies, built the Hoover dam, killed the Indians, fought the British, settled and developed the land.

Then along come women: "We are your equals in all ways!!" LMAO. American men, most of them, are completely kowtowed by their women.

I cant stand religion or fundies so I wouldn't like it over there. But they dont allow their women to run them, thats for sure.

When are they going to get around to "voicing concerns" over the 100's of Americans they left behind?

Gosh, maybe they should have got themselves a flight out since we've known for a year that the US surrendered and would be retreating?

Meh. They knew the risks! If they are living in country then they had to know the phony US backed government would soon be collapsing. They'll just have to do the best they can now. 🤷‍♂️

The US State Department is filled with out-of-touch dumbasses.

Well, then, the Taliban are sure to start including the ladies.

After all, our State Department has voiced its concern.

So, of course, the Taliban leaders must be shaking in their boots.

Yeah, it wasn't so much that we handed it over, but rather that we left and the nigh-puppet government we had in place folded like the house of cards we had built it to be.

Well, then, the Taliban are sure to start including the ladies.

I think voicing concern is one of the steps on a long and tedious road, containing diplomacy, sanctions, general ****ery, and probably more conflict/violence.
But yes, it seems silly.

Come on Man! President Biden said he thinks the Taliban are in the midst of an existential crisis to decide if they want to be a valid government in the global community. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you kidding me????? They don't give a s--T. That statement just shows how out of touch Joe Biden is with reality. He's a puppet for the crazy liberal/socialist. It also shows how nonchalantly the left tosses out the term existential crisis. Just another example of why things like climate change sounds like overblown BS.

One would think they could at least appoint as many women as the Trump administration did.

I have no idea what this is trying to convey as it's a garbled mix of words that appear out of place. However, can you elaborate here? You actually believe Biden may want to go to war with the Taliban for not having enough women in government, but not for refusing to let our allies leave, oppressing women, killing dissidents, etc? That's quite the conspiracy theory and a very self-unaware response. But, at least it isn't a defense of terrorists so progress has been made. Congratulations.
