Special counsel Jack Smith said Monday that he is dropping the federal election subversion case against President-elect Donald Trump, seeking the case’s dismissal in a court filing with the judge.

Trump has said he would fire Smith once he retook the office, shattering previous norms around special counsel investigations.

“The (Justice) Department’s position is that the Constitution requires that this case be dismissed before the defendant is inaugurated,” Smith wrote in a six-page filing. “This outcome is not based on the merits or strength of the case against the defendant.”

Proof is in the pudding. The election is over and so is the election interference. I hope Jack Smith has been getting his jogging in because he better run for the hills.

Retribution is coming.

"“The (Justice) Department’s position is that the Constitution requires that this case be dismissed before the defendant is inaugurated,” Smith wrote in a six-page filing with the US District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan in Washington, DC, regarding the election subversion case. “This outcome is not based on the merits or strength of the case against the defendant.”

The case being dropped has nothing to do with the evidence against Trump.

Interesting how you support retribution. Why is that?

Smith is going to get in his parting shots.

I mean like all Libtards, he has to keep doubling down on failure. He has to keep believing he is the force for good when in fact he is the evil one who tried to deny Americans their right to choice. Smith was the literal threat to Democracy.

Demonrats can't believe that though.

You poor people.

Oh, yes.
Going after the people who invetsigated you?
That's not mafia tactics at all.

What grounds would Trump have to harass or charge them?

No one is above the law.

Trump seems to think he is.

Again, please show on what grounds the people investigating Trump can possibly be charged or harrased?

Conspiracy to defraud.

It would be silly for Trump, via Bondi, to go after Smith et. al. It would take years.

What could they investigate though? Defrauding the USA , voting rights violations come to mind.
If Bondi wants to get creative, that is.

But I don't think she will, and I hope she won't.

She will have to or Trump will replace her.

It's going to be fun seeing them scramble to come up with legal reasons for going after them.
The main problem will be these people know excellent lawyers so can use the same delay tactics that Trump uses and they only have to delay for 4 years because I have a feeling once Trump leaves office these revenge charges will go away.

If election reform happens Democrats are going lose millions more "voters".
You mean election interference and fraud from the Single Party MAGAs? I mean, it's possible. We'll see how far down the road to communism Trump gets us in 4 years.

Next up...Smith will resign. He'll do it BEFORE Trump is inaugurated.

Trump won't "go after" Smith. It's enough that everything he did is over and that he can go back to doing what he was doing before all this.

No, Trump will be too busy going after the actual corrupt people in the executive branch to bother with Smith, who has an out...he was just doing his job, don't you know?

He will break them financially. With lawyer costs and bogus IRS bills.

Unfortunately you cannot prosecute a sitting president. Trump is guilty of this and many other crimes. If he lives to finish his term my hope the prosecutions will pick up where they left off.

As for Georgia we will have to see how that plays out

It's official. Smile through your tears.

I hope Trump sends Jack Smith into a supermax solitary. Its what he deserves.

I hope they pick this up again in 4 years.
It was dismissed without prejudice and Chutkan made a point that the status of president is temporary in nature. Also, Trump's legal team did not oppose the without prejudice status, which means that the avenue for appeals is closed.

This can be taken back up if there is will to do so in 2029 (and Trump doesn't completely wreck our society in the mean time).

Chutkan just issued a finding of no prosecutorial misconduct, so that just got a lot harder to do if that is your goal. Trump's desire for lawfare has been anticipated and largely dealt with already.
