They're going after the cable/broadcast media first. They'll start leaning on social media next, and they'll use AI as their leverage. All tech companies are in an intense arms race to establish dominance in the AI space. Trump/MAGA will use their power to regulate social media and reward AI projects. The FCC is a prelude to what will likely be far more intrusive attempts at censorship. Throw in a national emergency (pick one) and they'll be off to the races. They'll build CCP-style self-censorship machines that will get accounts suspended, shadow-banned, virtually disappeared, and if someone is still an annoyance after that, they'll probably be physically disappeared, charged with crimes against the state or something.

For years and years, through Republican and Democratic administrations and Congresses, we had a chance to do away with the security state. We never did. We had bulk data collection revealed during the Obama administration, and all Obama's DOJ did was accuse him of violating the Espionage Act, which is a statutory legacy of WW1 authoritarianism. We allowed James Clapper to openly commit perjury before Congress when he denied its existence after being asked point blank by Sen. Ron Wyden of Oregon. We kept reauthorizing warrantless FISA wiretaps (even after the first MAGA administration complained bitterly about their abuses). Our chickens have come home to roost.
