Trump hears back from South Africa...

"In a bold and unprecedented move, the South African government has officially suspended all American businesses within its territory and halted mineral exports to the United States."

"This drastic measure comes on the heels of Donald Trump’s decision to cut off all funding from the US to South Africa, including USAID. The South African government has made it clear that it will no longer tolerate the disrespect and disregard shown by the Western world."

"The move is expected to have significant economic implications for both countries. The US makes over $25 billion in profits from South Africa annually, and the suspension of American businesses and mineral exports will undoubtedly hit the US economy hard."

It's gonna hurt South Africa but bullies gotta be defied.

It is going to raise prices for goods made with those imported minerals. But this is what happens when you slap your trading partners across the face and stick your chin out with a grin.

good - let South Africa be isolated from the world

they've made such great decisions so far, right ?

  • In 2024, the World Bank estimated that 63% of the population would live below the $6.85 upper-middle-income threshold.
  • In 2019, 45.1% of South Africa's population lived in extreme poverty.
  • Job availability is a major obstacle to reducing poverty and inequality.
  • In 2023, youth unemployment was as high as 49.14%.
  • The normalisation of violence. Violence is seen by many as a necessary and justified way of resolving conflict, and some men believe that coercive sexual behaviour towards women is legitimate.
  • A subculture of violence and criminality, ranging from individual criminals who rape or rob, to informal groups or more formalised gangs. Those involved in the subculture are engaged in criminal careers[18] and commonly use firearms, with the exception of Cape Town; where knife violence is more prevalent. Credibility within this subculture is related to the readiness to resort to extreme violence
  • The vulnerability of young people due to inadequate child-rearing, followed by poor guardianship and youth socialisation. Due to poverty and deprivation, unstable living arrangements and inconsistent parenting,[18] some South African children are exposed to risk factors which increase their chances of becoming involved in criminality and violence.
  • High levels of inequality, poverty, unemployment, social exclusion and marginalisationThe consumption and abuse of alcohol is a demonstrable cause or contributing factor in many violent crimes including murder, attempted murder, assault,[19] gender-based assault and rape cases. These incidents regularly occur in or directly outside bars, taverns, shebeens or nightclubs.[20][21][22] In addition many South Africans, including on-duty policemen,[23][24][25] are arrested for drinking and driving,[26][27][28][29] a crime which is linked to 27% of fatal road accidents.[30]

Americans are really going to be paying a lot more for things and we're going to start seeing a lot of supply issues due to MAGAs hostility to the American people.

The oligarchs will come out on top though.

Okay. You rattled off some hastily-mined statistics off Google regarding South Africa's poorly-managed economy. Great. How exactly does this help the United States and everyday Americans?

How is President Musk going to handle this?

MAGAs don't care about everyday Americans. They care about Dear Leader's power and control and feeding the Oligarchy. Nothing more, nothing less.

A Fox one day spied a beautiful bunch of ripe grapes hanging from a vine trained along the branches of a tree. The grapes seemed ready to burst with juice, and the Fox's mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them.

The bunch hung from a high branch, and the Fox had to jump for it. The first time he jumped he missed it by a long way. So he walked off a short distance and took a running leap at it, only to fall short once more. Again and again he tried, but in vain.

Now he sat down and looked at the grapes in disgust.

"What a fool I am," he said. "Here I am wearing myself out to get a bunch of sour grapes that are not worth gaping for."

And off he walked very, very scornfully.

What do we get from South Africa that is going raise our prices.

Do really think the country hasn't been run by rich people for the last 250 years.

My Grandad told me once before he passed, "I never got a paycheck from a poor man"

Grand Mal was telling stories - I thought that's what we'd started doing in this thread ?

Anyway, .... I've been looking for an African 14 day plains hunt .... South Africa off the tables now.

According to available data, South Africa generates an estimated $130 million to $250 million annually from hunting tourism, with some sources stating that the spending stimulus from hunting can reach around $341 million when considering the wider economic impact on related sectors like agriculture and manufacturing

From the article

The move is expected to have significant economic implications for both countries. The US makes over $25 billion in profits from South Africa annually, and the suspension of American businesses and mineral exports will undoubtedly hit the US economy hard.

MAGAs are willing to blow up the US economy for Dear Leader's ego.

Why doesn’t Elon Musk go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested place from which he came? Then come back and show us how it is done. That place needs his help badly, he can’t leave fast enough.

The United States' trade deficit in 2024 was $918.4 billion, which is a 17% increase from 2023. This is the highest trade deficit since March 2022.

If only there was some website one could use to find out what makes up that deficit. I guess we will have to display ignorance and pretend it is nothing. We do no business with this country!

Except it's not. You are aware South Africa is the "S" in BRICS, yes?
🤭

This will impact them, but it also makes the decision to think of moving away from the US as well, and the US isn't the economy they do business with.

Maybe South Africa and other African nations should announce that the oppressed black minority in the USA will be accepted as refugees.
