Yup. The tea party was vandalism. The Founders were both traitors and war criminals (they wouldn’t line up and exchange volleys until one side had no more troops, as was the “appropriate” way to make war. And don’t get me started on the outrageous practice of targeting officers. They were off limits according the “rules” of war at that time.

The Tea Party was vandalism, tarring and feathering tax officials was assault, the Boston Massacre started with a riot.
 
Been to a lot of liberal-leftish demonstrations back in the day. One constant, despite the vast majority of participants being peaceful, was a small group who acted violently, presumably to bring on their fantasies of some sort of revolution. I worked for the farm workers union in the 1979s, and Cesar Chavez had to deal with some groups who wanted the strikers to get violent. He often fasted as a challenge to these. Leadership on the left - and presumably on the right - can keep things under control. Trump’s apocalyptic language on Jan 6 and his sitting on his hands when things turned violent, undid whatever his words about acting peacefully might have suggested.

I'm very familiar. We declared independence because we were not being represented by the British government. Upon declaring independence, the British were no longer our fellow citizens.

That's how "independence" works. It's literally in the definition of the word.

It's definitely not a "profoundly ignorant thing to say" that we declared the Brits to be our enemy and then fought a war against them so we could have our own country, and that once we declared them to be our enemy, they were no longer our fellow citizens.

To argue otherwise is just being obtuse for the sake of being difficult.

There is quite a difference between failing to disperse and the other crimes. The number of arrests for looting, arson and attacks on police would give us a clearer picture of the level of violence.

I have a general dislike for crowds, and did even before the era of mass shootings/violent protests.

And what does violent protest against tyranny in 1776 have to do with violent or threatening actions being taken against innocent bystander fellow citizens in 2025?
 
Fascists have never seen protesters being "peaceful" and thought "I'm not gonna target you anymore."

Threats like this from the left will likely only increase.

They had four years to address the issue, but only made it 10x worse. We're now to the point where enforcing written immigration laws has them burning cars and destroying businesses.
