I know this is a theoretical question, since Trump is as predictable as a roach after the light is turned on, but what happens next?

His approval ratings are abysmal with (most likely) the exception of his base.

He implemented tariffs, then delayed them due to pressure from financial experts and a precipitous drop in the stock market. Now he has rolled back certain auto tariffs. No one wanted these to start with.

He continues to deport people to El Salvador without due process. Very few Americans want this.

He continues to implement EOs that should be vetted by Congress.

He is basically blowing up the Constitution by ignoring courts and continuing his illegal acts. Even everyday Americans are starting to recognize this and worry about our country.

So, what happens next? Do his sycophants in the Senate and House finally start to side with the American people? Is there any breaking point where they realize they will be voted out in the mid-terms if they don't? Are they on a sinking ship?

Democrats are pretty powerless now so I really do think Trump is just taking himself down, along with his minions. I'm happy to see all the protests and the attendance at the Bernie/AOC rallies but are they going to influence the American public that Trump needs to go? Maybe help Democrats in the mid-terms?

Lots to digest here but it will be interesting to see your responses.

If we still have high tariffs, whether it's 20% or 30% or 50%, on foreign imports a year from now, will you consider that a victory?
Total victory.
Why so?
Because the country will be making a fortune. Look, that's what China did to us. They charge us 100%. If you look at India—India charges 100-150%. If you look at Brazil, if you look at many, many countries, they charge—that's how they survive. That's how they got rich. Now, zero would be easy. Oh, zero would be easy, but zero, you wouldn't have any companies coming in. They're coming in because they don't want to pay the tariffs. Remember this, there are no tariffs, if they make their product here. There are no tariffs, if they make their product here. There are no tariffs. This is a tremendous success. You just don't know it yet, but this is a tremendous success what’s happening. We're taking in billions and billions of dollars, money that we never took in before. We're also, very importantly, because of that, because of the money we're taking in, those companies are going to come back and they're going to make their product here. They're going to go back into North Carolina and start making furniture again. They've already started. In Mexico, many car plants that were under construction have stopped. They're all coming into this country. We're gonna, you're gonna see car plants going at a level that you've never seen before.

He refuses to reverse course, the US economy continues to get worse, people continue getting angrier, his cult continues to blindly support him. Eventually protests start, police respond as they love to respond to protests, turning them into riots, and then Trump invokes the Insurrection Act to try to achieve dictatorial power.

Then either the military deposes him, or the entirety of US democracy dies and the country devolves down the road to civil war.

So what happens next in Trump's America?
This is a reasonable question.

Trump is following the tested advice to do everything controversial immediately and concurrently.

I know this is a theoretical question, since Trump is as predictable as a roach after the light is turned on, but what happens next?
It's not rhetorical.

Saying so shows limited understanding of the dynamics.

His approval ratings are abysmal with (most likely) the exception of his base.
Temporary.

He implemented tariffs, then delayed them due to pressure from financial experts and a precipitous drop in the stock market. Now he has rolled back certain auto tariffs. No one wanted these to start with.
Standard Trump tactics.

These should be familiar by now.

He continues to deport people to El Salvador without due process. Very few Americans want this.
Most Americans want this.

Check the polling.

He continues to implement EOs that should be vetted by Congress.
Not really.

His EOs came out early.

He is basically blowing up the Constitution by ignoring courts and continuing his illegal acts. Even everyday Americans are starting to recognize this and worry about our country.
This will be litigated.

It is sufficient to say that Trump can make a case.

So, what happens next?
Items requiring Congress are next.

On the EOs, we wait to see how things develop.

Do his sycophants in the Senate and House finally start to side with the American people? Is there any breaking point where they realize they will be voted out in the mid-terms if they don't? Are they on a sinking ship?
You are an anti-Trump sycophant.

What is the cult telling you?

Democrats are pretty powerless now so I really do think Trump is just taking himself down, along with his minions. I'm happy to see all the protests and the attendance at the Bernie/AOC rallies but are they going to influence the American public that Trump needs to go?
The Democrats are all over the place and have not massed on any one item.

Maybe help Democrats in the mid-terms?
Doubtful.

Trump has a year to let his tariffs ripen, trade agreements, and economic progress occur. His record is quite good on economics.

Lots to digest here but it will be interesting to see your responses.
Digest this.

Trump learned from his first term not to go at things piecemeal. He hit you with everything at once.

Source for your claim that most Americans support deportation without due process?

Source for your claim that most Americans support deportation without due process?
Moving the goal posts. Nice.

Most Americans support the deportation of illegal aliens, particularly those with criminal records.

No, the post you were replying to already mentioned “without due process”, so are you saying you were replying to that post with false unrelated nonsense?

It mentioned gang membership.

Most Americans support the deportation of violent illegals.

Most Americans support the deportation of violent illegals.

It specifically used the words “without due process” and said most Americans don’t support that.

Then you claimed polling shows most Americans do support that.

So what is your source? Or were you lying?

(Just admit you deliberately lied. It will make you more like Trump)

Oh, hell, that's easy, the zombie apocalypse. Duh.

The future imo will depend mostly on the economy. If the economy continues to falter badly, the pressure on the Republican congress will get immense. As we near 2026, and congress members start to think about the impending mid terms, the self survival instincts of any Republicans facing serious Dem challenges will start driving their behaviour more. For some that may mean showing their voters that they are trying to stop the Trump craziness that is hurting their voters so badly. For some it will very likely be too late to convince their voters that they are doing anything more than trying to keep their seat. Today we are looking at a very high likelihood of a 'blue wave' in the mid terms. The size of that wave is going to be important, but how important might end up depending on how much corruption the SCOTUS conservative majority is prepared to indulge in.

But what will the economy actually do from here? Even if Trump were to drop all tariffs tomorrow, we probably have a negative growth 3Q already baked in. And Trump isn't going to drop the tariffs because they are his only serious economic policy. Normally during a recession we would get Fed support through lower interest rates, and increased govt spending to drive up confidence and get consumers spending again. This time however we are almost certainly facing some form of stagflation due to the tariffs and the way they have broken the supply chains. That puts the Fed in a bad spot as they are by mandate focussed on fighting inflation. But they are also by mandate focussed on jobs, so we may see some lowering of interest rates if they prioritise jobs over inflation, which is what Trump says he wants. But inflation is a big reason we have Trump, so going into 2026 with high inflation will again put pressure on congressional republicans to oppose Trump.

In a nutshell, a lot of the future depends on either Trump changing course to something more rational, or congressional republicans finding enough backbone to oppose him because they become more scared of their own voters than they are of Trump. If nothing significantly changes, we will see a recession and we will see inflationary pressures build. If those happen, we will at least see a Dem House after the mid terms.

Trumps promises have shifted from the pre election promises of instant gratification that America so loves, to promises of things being better years into the uncertain future. Trumps challenge though is to keep people believing in his promised future as they endure the pain he is inflicting today. That isn't normally a winning proposition in America.

My expectation is that we have a nasty economic contraction in 2025, with Trump pulling back from some of his worst policy excesses by claiming that they were just negotiating techniques and he was never serious about them. He will do this to try and soften the impact of his failures, while trying to protect his own fragile ego. The maga cult will endlessly quote this as 4D chess etc, as we all deal with the nasty economic fallout of Trumps failures. There is no doubt that Trump is causing great economic harm today, and there is a lot of doubt that his promised future is anything like realistic. A lot of what happens now is going to depend on whether Trump can maintain enough support with just his mouth and nothing much of concrete, measurable significance. If he can, we are in for really bad next few years. If the Republican congress get scared enough of their voters to grow a spine, then maybe they can stop Trumps worst excesses and we can hope for a much shorter period of economic decline.

He starts sending liberals like you to Gulags.

Nice! I hope you are proud of yourself.

You're the one with the bad back from moving goalposts.

You said "without due process".

So what happens next in Trump's America?

More than likely, nothing good!

Back to the original position.

You said "without due process".
As Questarr pointed out, I replied to a post that used those words, thereby moving the goalpost.

I intentionally did not say without due process.
