Amazon Web Services outage hits major websites

My cloud kindle was out for a while...back up now; I like to use Amazons unlimited kindle

I am a voracious reader...unfortunately, being in Iraq and Afghanistan for so long it was impractical to lug around footlockers full of books every time I had to relocate....so, kindle became my default reading platform.

Perfect for travel. I can read several books on a two week vacation. They add a lot of weight to luggage.

Kindle 32GB can hold tens of thousands of books.

I read at night in bed when I can't sleep. Love the Paperwhite light and the fact that if I fall asleep while reading the only thing that might hit my face is a piece of plastic.

The app makes it even easier - it’s constantly at my fingertips.

I usually have 2-3 books going at any time

Just tweaking your melon.

I recently moved from Texas to Maine. The quote from the moving company was with and without books. The difference was over 2000$.

My company transferred me 14 times, including to Philadelphia and Beijing.

After about the 5th move I decided to donate my books and go digital. That was a sad day for moving company stock prices.

You can download a lot of books for 2k! I will say that if you have kids, having "real" books around is a must. They wire different brain connections than tablets.

This seems like someone(s) was trying to get Amazon's full attention.

Do we know it was a hack or are you guessing?

All I am reading suggests this was DNS based but targeted on who ended up impacted, so I'm stuck on the two options of negligence or hack.

I agree. Kids light up over real (physical) books.

As for the adult members of our household, we generally read audio books due to work / time constraints.

These very large outages are quite often the result of a software tweak gone awry. One little line of code is introduced with unanticipated results.

I hope that is the case, sincerely, because if it is the alternative then a whole lot of businesses that use AWS are going to have to consider alternatives.

Probably a DOS attack by the ChiComs.
