Skin-Care Tips.

Ya know, since I am probably the most inadequate female ever in this particular arena, I should probably defer to you ladies...

I am not all that fussed about looking young forever, but I'd sure love not to look like a leather bag or have skin cancer.

I have olive skin and Mediterranean genes, which has gotten me into a bad habit. I completely ignore sunscreen, simply because I can. I know I won't get away with that forever, and it's not like I sunbathe or anything, but I can't help thinking to myself, "Why? I won't burn. I'll be fine."

Well, not just that. Also because I HATE sunscreen. It feels greasy and oily and burns and it's disgusting. Plus, apparently, if you apply it wrong, it actually makes things worse. I didn't know you could apply it "wrong," but if anyone can, I'm sure it's me. I just hate the stuff.

I know I should use something while I can still protect my skin from too much damage. I found out in New Zealand, after the lack of an ozone layer finally got me, that I am not immune. I still have sun damage on my shoulders.

Is there any sunprotectant type thing you ladies know of that is not all of those things I hate? Either a sunscreen that doesn't have whatever weird ingrediants make my skin feel burn-y or over-oily, or something that can be used instead of market sunscreen?

I don't need a high SPF. I just need *something.* Anything.

I see lizzie responded, and that's a really good product. Nutragena anything, lack all kinds of chemicals so hopefully it won't make your skin feel burny.

I don't have anything to suggest for your body, but I just wanted to add, I use facial sunscreen everyday. My under makeup moisturizer has an SPF 15 in it. I read about UV and how even in winter, it has an effect. I use Oil of Olay, Daily Moisturizer. Even though you are olive skinned, you might consider that. It's very light, absorbs fast, doesn't clog pores and never feels greasy. Even on days I don't wear makeup, I use that and did on my daughter when she was a baby/toddler. So it's really gentle, no chemical reaction. FWIW

My wife uses Earth Balance Coconut Spread - had to go look in the refrigerator. I think she gets it at Whole Foods. She eats it on toast.

I simply eat a spoonful every morning. I like the taste. Some people put it in tea. Some people put it in coffee. Ain't no way I'm doing that to a good cup of coffee. Other ways we use it besides cooking is in smoothies. I even use it to fry eggs. You really can't taste it that way, though I'll admit coconut flavored eggs doesn't sound too appealing. There's not much taste that way.

We do not use it for salad oil, but pretty much every way you'd use oil coconut oil works and it's healthy.

Thanks for the tip! Yeah, I was going to put it in my coffee, but couldn't do it. LOL

That sounds really good. I like the flavor of coconut, but was wary of what to use it on/in. Thank you! :)

YIKES! I'm not sure that's a good thing. Coconut is one of the few natural fruits that has saturated fats.

Yeah, but I've read much that declares virgin coconut oil (the only kind approved by the Taliban ;) ) is a good fat. It's good for your heart.

I sneak use of me wife's cetaphil products from time to time when my skin gets so dry. I am a big fan of glycerin soap myself.

The secret to great skin is in the aging. You gotta wait at least 10-12 months, but anything longer than 15 months is too much. Harvest and apply regularly and I guarantee you'll be smooth as a baby's bottom.
