Immigration agents reportedly detained a 6-year-old girl, her teenage brother and her mother at a Manhattan immigration court last week. The family, originally from Ecuador, had appeared for a routine check-in at 26 Federal Plaza when Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents took them into custody on August 12, according to CBS News. In January, the Department of Homeland Security reversed its previous restrictions on ICE activity in sensitive locations such as courthouses, which had been previously exempt from enforcement operations, to allow individuals to access essential services without fear of being detained. The mother, identified as Martha, arrived in the U.S. with her daughter Dayra and 19-year-old son Manuel after fleeing violence in their home country, according to immigration advocates who spoke with CBS News. Dayra attends PS 89, the Jose Peralta School of Dreamers in Queens, according to NBC 4 New York. Shortly after the detention, the family was separated and transferred to different facilities, according to CBS News. There have been at least four documented cases involving immigration agents detaining a public school student in 2025, according to CBS News. The family will remain in ICE custody pending removal proceedings.

Trump stated he has directed ICE to arrest and deport the "worst of the worst" immigrant criminals. I keep trying to imagine how a 6 year old girl can be among the "worst of the worst". Nothing whatsoever comes to mind.
Despite promise to remove 'worst of the worst,' ICE has arrested only 6% of known immigrant murderers
ICE told Congress in September that over 13,000 immigrants known to have committed murder remained at large. Since then, only 752 have been arrested.www.nbcnews.com
Opinion | ICE is mostly arresting people with no criminal convictions
Serious criminal convicts are a small minority of the people taken into custody by ICE. The vast majority of detainees have no convictions at all.www.msnbc.com
And they are. He never said that would be to the exclusion of anyone else. And btw - the 6 year old goes in the poke with her mother because you folks lost your shit over family separation.Trump stated he has directed ICE to arrest and deport the "worst of the worst" immigrant criminals.

DHS said that the family had entered the United States unlawfully in December 2022 and was issued final orders of removal by an immigration judge.
Hmm…
Isn’t that ‘due process’?
Because of the final order of removal. Why should they be taken into custody at all? They were doing “the right thing” per the law.
Because of the final order of removal.
What legal protection? A final order of removal was issued by the immigration judge. They had legal protections. Why does the government hate legal immigration and want to strip legal protections from people?
The idea is to instill widespread fear in as much of the population as possible.Six-year-old detained by ICE agents in New York

By deporting a 6-year-old? Do you hear yourself? The idea is to enforce federal immigration law.

I thought the country was filled with bad hombres. Are they all gone? And they are. He never said that would be to the exclusion of anyone else. And btw - the 6 year old goes in the poke with her mother because you folks lost your shit over family separation.

Wow, that news story deserves its own thread. It's much easier (and safer) for ICE to arrest a familiy of 3, including a 6 year old girl, at the immigration courthouse.

13,000 - 752.
By my ciphering, 12,248 immigrant murderers remain within the US population. Yet ICE is arresting 6 year old schoolgirls at the courthouse.
No wonder the ICE warriors wear masks. I wouldn't want my mother knowing what I do to earn a paycheck either.
