Shrinking Tax Refunds Cast a Shadow on Trump’s Signature Law

i pay a higher percentage of my wages in taxes than the hyper-rich do, and can less afford to do so.
Then you need to get some tax advice.

Re: Shrinking Tax Refunds Cast a Shadow on Trumpâ€[emoji769]s Signature Law

Only 'cause you pay a pittance in tax. Or live in a high tax state and couldn't deduct your state and local taxes.

This is why populist messages like Bernie's resonate with so many people. A person making 1000$ a week and losing 150$ in taxes feels that monthly 600$ of taxes a month a lot more than someone making millions and having millions after taxes.

Bullseye though calls a 'pitance' the money that could go towards someone's bills, small business, or even their child's education.

Republicans have convinced their masses that poor people are poor because of bad decisions and not because everyone of us lives in an economy where the hyper-rich can control the rules of engagement for themselves and everyone else.

Get ready guys, 2020 is going to sting.

there is no qualifier.

The fact is that you get a mortgage deduction but it doesn't do you any good if your itemization's don't add up to over the standard deduction.
that doesn't mean you LOSE it.

what you get back or have to pay has nothing to do with tax liability.

tax liability is what you OWE the government at the end of the year.

if you over paid then you get a return. if you underpaid then you have to pay what you owe.
to find out if you have a tax cut you have to compare what your tax liability was last year
to what you owe this year.

I got a tax cut. I am not rich. your argument is yet again wrong.

Except that wages have been rising at near record rates and with demand for labor increasing wages still have room to grow.
pamak said:
Companies simply used the tax cut for buybacks which is good for about the upper 50% of the population which has an interest in the stock market

U.S. companies spent record $1 trillion buying back own stock this year - CBS News
And spent large amounts in employee wages and benefits and capital expenses as well. Oh, and that trillion dollars the spent in buybacks goes into the economy as well
pamak said:
The guys who will eventually pay for this tax cut are the ones at the bottom 50%. You already see the signs with the proposed budgets trying to cut medicare by about a trillion in the next decade.
Nonsense, with wage growth and expanding job growth they stand a great chance of improving their quality of life and prosperity. Medicare cuts are from attempts to cut fraud and waste, recipients will never see the effect. Medicare and Social Security have their own problems with looming unfunded liabilities.

See what I mean? Your personal story doesn't invalidate his. That's the moronic way in which you lose an argument, every single time.

he said only rich people got tax cuts and nothing for the middle class
i am not rich yet i got a tax cut and i am middle class so yes his argument is invalidated

amazing why paint brush fallacies fail.

Then you need to get some tax advice.

i already have that. if i were to run for office, i would also be able to release my returns unlike some room temp IQ dullards who paint themselves orange.

already addressed.

you said rich people got a tax cut and it didn't help the middle class
it helped me so your argument is invalidated.

thanks for playing. next time you should use fallacies as arguments.

you didn't address anything. you yet again make another argument you can't support.

you know what 80% of middle class people got a tax cut.

No, I don't. Please read my post first, THEN reply

Which is why Republicans fought to lower tax rates, build businesses and create millions of new jobs. While all the dems promise is more free stuff they can't even explain how to pay for.

You are lying, ludin.

Helix has contended that it did something, it was a pitance, but it wasn't much. Your argument is that you got a refund, so he's wrong. That doesn't invalidate his argument because we can cite 1000s of stories of people finding out that the tax cuts won't help them and that they won't be getting a refund either.

Lol, j-mac is one such story - he's telling you his story, and your claim is that yours invalidates him.

How do you have trouble with this? Lol, jury of your peers moment, ludin.

Thanks for keep the discuss on an intellectual level.

They are not rising at near record levels, unless you count since the start of the latest recession and assume that during the Bush years everybody prospered. And again you ignore the issue that average wages in fields of high inequality do not show the real picture. Also, with this level of low unemployment, I do not see much room of growth for the wages.
As for the impact of buybacks, here is a detailed article describing why they are actually a problem for the healthy growth of the economy

Split posting? I must have hit a vein. Don't worry, you will be whining when the 2020 elections don't turn it how you wish they did.

The only things you'll have to blame are calling the taxes poor people pay 'pitances'.

The post quoted above was so bad, Tapatalk didn't even notify me of it.

Lol, what a trainwreck.

You know, I do not underestimate the partisanship of voters and their willingness to make political decisions based on their feelings and not based on facts. I stopped trying to make predictions about elections after I saw Bush win a second term despite the fact that by that time everybody knew that the war in Iraq was based on lies or massive incompetence at the very least!

Re: Shrinking Tax Refunds Cast a Shadow on Trumpâ€[emoji769]s Signature Law

Agreed, all I am going with is demographics - not enough to make a prediction.

Still, I am optimistic.

Hilarious. Trump gives a massive tax cut to the 1% and his followers can't figure out why it didn't help them.

I don't see where you libs are coming from. My taxes were lower, my daughter who owns a restaurant says all her staff made more, and kept more than previous years. She is a staunch supporter of Trump, primarily because he's been good for business. The tariffs had minimal impact (food costs did not skyrocket). She getting ready to open a second restaurant. She said under Obama there was no way she would make that step.

Re: Shrinking Tax Refunds Cast a Shadow on Trumpâ€[emoji769]s Signature Law

... Tariffs..? Affecting a restaurant? Was she serving beams of Chinese made steel and Bolivian quinoa? Maybe sheets Indian made solar panels with Brazilian soy beans?

What do you think the tariffs were supposed to do for restaurants?

Sure.

Probably not a good idea to open a 2nd restaurant on the cusp of a recession.

Re: Shrinking Tax Refunds Cast a Shadow on Trumpâ€[emoji769]s Signature Law

What does being a "right winger" have to do with the size of the tax cut? Was there a special deduction for Conservatives? Damn! I missed that one for the last forty years!

Those are the people who should be the angriest about these tax cuts not working out how they thought. They literally voted for what they cannot use as a talking point.

your blatant lie about how I used that word is shameful and dishonest. Par for the LW.
