No. They should repeal the smoking in bars ban, too.

I'm not a smoker. But if you can ban cigarettes then what is to stop the banning of everything else that some group doesn't like?

Sugar, caffeine, and salt maybe?

How about we lock up people who don't meet certain weight and health requirements and force them into hard physical exercise camps?
We could make fat people pick all of the fruit once Donald Trump rounds up the 11 million immigrants and ships them out on box cars.

This opens all sorts of doors.
Maybe we could make religious material of all kinds be illegal.
Or maybe we should ban all travel by vehicle.

Maybe we should mind our own fekking business and leave people alone...

How do you know? Maybe many of us will live eternally in fire -- especially people who take their own lives?

There is no evidence of that whatsoever. You're living in a fantasy world. Knock it off.

I actually don't see many people smoking anymore... of course here in California you can barely smoke in your own house.

I will admit, I don't miss the smell of cig smoke,, and I use to be a smoker,, Long long ago..

If you ban cigarettes just to save lives, Then you would have to ban the automobile, Booze, swimming pools,, etc.. etc.. etc...

No. Cheeseburgers, fries and soda shorten the lives of people too, but I'm not for banning them either.

People are not, for the VAST MAJORITY... addicted to burgers.

Slippery Slope...

How about banning sleeping cause some die in there sleep... get real.

But tobacco does cost tens of thousands lives per year.

Well, no, but i think people should be allowed to smoke crack. Adults should be able to choose to refrain from smoking things like crack and cigarettes, and if they don't, the law won't prevent them from doing so anyway.

What we can consider doing is banning smoking in certain areas. What this should be balanced with are well-defined and suitable smoking areas. But i think this is policy that is better suited on a private scale than a public one.

That is where I disagree 100%. Not all adults are mature.

That's why we have laws that directly address bad behavior, whether under the influence of something or not.

But US has few laws to help people with disability or to keep mentally ill people from harming themselves.

Because no laws against such a thing are possible, hence we have laws against the act itself, with a few irrational exceptions.

If someone is drunk and kills someone else, it doesn't matter if he/she wsa drunk or not. That person is still dead. It's still murder.

Scandinavia gives these people huge amount of free help -- they have much much lower crime rate and more humane justice system then USA.

It's not free.

I didn't mean to suggest that they are mature, but i think we should treat them as though they are by default.

They care about every human who needs help -- even those who are not that self sufficient.

Clearly you have no concept of doing things to help other people without putting the lethal force of government behind it.

Sadly people are unlikely to donate much to charity. Scandinavia has income tax about 60%.

Sadly, you haven't actually looked into it, or you'd know that at least in THIS country, that's not true at all.

Scandinavia has income tax about 60%.

I know. The government takes most of your money by force. You think that's moral.

Every government taxes the citizens. USA spends $700 Billion a year on useless military. If $400 Billion was used on Welfare, decent living could be provided to 20 million people.
