I saw Right wing activist Larry Klayman has filed a civil suit in federal court against China, along with filing a criminal complaint in some international tribunal as well. Do you think the USA or entities in the USA should sue the Chinese Government for the obvious damage the Chinese sourced virus has caused the USA and if successful, should Chinese assets in the USA be seized?
Its an interest thought, but it would be one of those things that we could possibly never enforce.
International courts are slow; by nature they can be political, and the American Right - which is more interested in finding a foreign actor to blame - never had much use for international tribunals anyway. The US isn't even a party to he ICC is it? For those reasons I doubt it will happen. I'd imagine that like say, suing Saudi Arabia for its involvement in 9/11, it can be done in an American court and will be more symbolic than anything.
Now if the US government wishes to hold China accountable for missteps, some manner of trade sanctions or tariffs would be more traditional. Problem is of course a country like China can counterpunch with its own economic measures.
Lastly America has to agree it was China's 'fault' and right now more than half the country is busy watching its own leader fumble and flail like a toddler. Glass houses and all that.
"Chinese" investments? By individuals? By business entities? By the Chinese government? The CCP?Klayman noted billions of chinese investments in the USA that could be "attached" to satisfy a judgment
Given that the lot you were still attempting to get the man impeached, while he was already working to counter the virus.Glass houses and all that.

The irony of that last statement, has just made my night.

Winning a suit against the Chinese government, and then going after individual or business assets, would seem to me to open up a huge can of worms. Besides, I highly doubt any judge would attach the assets of businesses or individuals, for a judgement against the Chinese government.
Only those assets owned by the Chinese government or entities directly controlled by the Chinese government, not by private citizens. I am not a big fan of expedient populist nationalization.
Yep. The U.S. best shot at reforming China would be in unison with the world community. Agreed. But you'd have to convince a federal judge of that.Well.. let's be honest here. What's the possibility of those larger business investments, not being directly run, or under the purview of their government?
Still a big can of worms to be sure.

we should only sue them if there's a chance that they will return the strawberries along with the key.
