Never will I stop being a bitch, I like being Beautiful, Intelligent, Talented, Clever, and Honest. And I'd rather be a bitch than a chicken little.
How is 2 votes spamming? I see 147 votes for yes, but only two members listed, is that what you mean?
Actually you might be right. The "yes" is 147 but only lists two members, the "no" is down at 24 but has a long list of members. I think perhaps you are right. Anyone on the lists feel their vote is in the wrong place?
Should the U. S. Government Monitor DP For Potential Threats? - View Poll Results
So long as those dossiers are have no more personal detail than I could acquire if I decided to monitor all the postings on DP, then I don't have a problem. It's a public site. So long as they only access what normal members access, their algorithms and such are no more detrimental than those being used by google and other ad agencies everytime you enter a page at DP. If it's okay for ad agencies and google to be tracking what I do and type on a public forum, then it's okay for the government. Actually google et al probably have waaayyyy more personal information due to general browsing and computer identification than anyone could get of DP even with a warrant.
So the poll stands at
Yes: 2
No: 25
Maybe: 5
DK: 1
Not sure why some idiot is spamming the 'yes' vote.
I suppose I have two issues with it. One, a site like this is relatively benign and as such, it is a waste of resources. The second thing is that it could be used as a mechanism to suppress dissent, as opposed to preventing threats. It is said that the government used to IRS to target people because of their political views. If that is true, such monitoring could potentially lead the government to unnecessarily target and harass people who in reality pose no threat, but are simply expressing a point of view that they do not like.
And who said they think it's being monitored, hmm? Need a little comprehension course. The op asks whether or not we think it should be monitored by the government. For those that value their constitutional liberties, of course not. For the shivering scared rest, well, apparently.
DP staff might review past polls for a pattern of what ideology is scamming the polls. Be it NeoCons, Libs, Communists, Cubans, Kiwis, or Dems and Repubs. A lean will be revealed by the collective analysis of the past polls.
I don't think the op was about civil liberties. I think it was asking is there anything on this site that is subversive?
because no one ever lies when they answer an anonymous poll?
I think an agenda will be revealed by such an analysis. We are also not talking about anonymous polls. An agenda has a particular aim/objective and that is what you want revealed. If everyone lies on your polls, that's OK with me and apparently you.
Up until yesterday, non-members could vote in the Poll section. No longer.
Exactly. Especially to your second point. But hey, if your not saying anything wrong, what's the problem?
Good one! Any rate, there are quite a few paranoid idiots out there that create problems out of nothing. It becomes a big problem when they occupy positions in the government where they can affect people's lives. Over and above that, there are some outside of the government who are paranoid and use sites like this to create twisted propaganda and smears to provide cover for their nefarious intent.
Not without a warrant they shouldn't.
I don't believe I've seen anyone here doing that, but then this board has a lot of forums, and I'm busy enough in just 2-3 of them.
Some here do indeed create twisted propaganda to put forward and agenda.
OH please! Everyone here does. We are here to voice our opinions of what we think is, was, and should be, and we want to be heard, ie propaganda, and since it's OUR perspective that we hope will influence readers, if not fellow members, there's an agenda.
Of course we create propaganda. But it is another thing when you deliberately distort the truth.

There are very few "truths" that are undeniably verifiable. Everything else is really perspective based on the facts, psuedo-facts, lies, and misdirections of others.
For example, here's a thread that's clearly propaganda. "Class warfare" is no longer working for the O'Reilly and his minions, so they are trying to get a new catch phrase off the ground and his minions are doing his biding. Clearly it's not a lie, but it's also not the truth, evenso it's propaganda.

I'd bet dollars to doughnuts they already do.
IF our government had a viable efficient way of doing this . .Then .. yes .. But, I think not that people and computer systems have advanced that much .
