President Biden is right. Political satire is one of the oldest and most important forms of free speech. It challenges those in power while using humor to draw more people in to the discussion. That’s why people in influential positions have always targeted it for censorship.

This seems like a pretty mean spirited episode on Donald Trump. Sould Comedy Central be next?

Please keep it civil. This is the golden age after all.
Trump won’t understand parody. Stewart is being eyed for an high-level administration post!

I'm too young to have witnessed it (wasn't even born yet when it went off the air), but I read somewhere that Nixon loved Archie Bunker and thought he really was the protagonist of the series. Nixon thought the show was bad because the entire show was meant to be satire and Archie was specifically meant to be made fun of, to have his POV challenged and shown to be wrong. And Nixon saw himself in Archie Bunker and couldn't handle being made fun of like that.

“All In the Family” wouldn’t see the light of day in this day and age, young ‘un…….

I started watching it last year or the year just before for the first time ever. I loved it. I think if we had a writer as skilled as Norman Lear it would work, but it would have to be very carefully done. I also think that Trump would at least try to stop it at the first hint of anything against him being put out like that though.

We expect the free broadcast media to be fair and unbiased. If you are cable or subscription media then that is a different story.

Despite we live in a country where free speech is protected the real enemy is the Government when it fails to follow the Constitution.

The First Amendment protects the freedoms of religion, speech, press, and the right to peaceably assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. It specifically limits Congress from passing laws that infringe on these rights, though the protections are not absolute and have been subject to various court interpretations over time.
Key Points
  • Freedom of Speech: Protects the right to express oneself without government censorship.
  • Freedom of the Press: Guarantees the right of the press to publish information and express opinions without government interference.
  • Limits on Protection: While the First Amendment offers significant protections, these rights are not limitless. For example, speech that incites violence or constitutes a true threat is not protected.
  • Government vs. Private Action: The First Amendment restricts government actions and laws, not the actions of private individuals or companies.
  • Context and Interpretation: The scope and application of these rights are constantly evolving, influenced by Supreme Court rulings and societal changes.
  • Foundational Rights: The freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment are considered fundamental rights crucial to the foundation of a free government and society.

Weird how I have no broadcast or cable teevee, but still get CC.
I don't uderstand what that has to do with what I posted. In fact, it reinforces what I said. You're still getting Jon Stewart, aren't you?

If you're not a boomer using digital antenna, everything you watch is paid for, and not broadcast.

Which didn't stop Trump, Carr or your creepy ****ing overlords from attacking the 1A.

Which is exactly why I said the "free" broadcast media, including ABC, CBS, & NBC should be presenting programming that is fair and unbiased. But, thanks for admitting that they do not.

None of it is free of I have to pay to see it.

Why is this hard for you?

I haven't heard of anyone using rabbit ears since the 00s. Maybe @Moderate Right lives close to a retirement home and sees them all the time.

But what does that have to do Comedy Central on cable? Who the boomer knows!

Or in my case, because I have a Paramount+ subscription for the UCL, the UEL, the EFL and Serie A.
