A Wisconsin state senator facing a June primary election abruptly resigned Friday, plunging the Senate into a tie and shaking up the state's political landscape. Sen. Pam Galloway (R-Wausau) announced she would be resigning effective Saturday from the seat she has held since her November 2010 election. In a statement on her website and Facebook page, Galloway said that she was resigning in order to deal with family issues.
While it's looking like the Walker recall effort may fall short, it just became much more likely that Democrats will take contrl of the Senate and thus be able to exert some influence.

Why are you thinking the recall may come up short?
Well, aren't there also some senate Repubs up for recall election? I'm thinking yes. I find it hard to believe Walker is going to survive this onslaught. When's the election? Do you know?
If he wins wouldnt that be a general indication that the people of the state support what he has done? Democrats ran the state for years and created the problem, not sure why the taxpayers would put them back in charge.Polls show Walker well ahead of potential opponents, and he's got tons of cash.

I think Wisconsinites generally do not approve of his attack on the unions' collective bargaining rights, but apparently they like other aspects of his leadership.
What created Wisconsins' problem, as in so many other states, was the Great Recession. Before that their finances weren't in too bad a shape.
I disagree, many people in the private sector took major paycuts & layoffs during the last few years while still having to pay for these peoples "Cadillac" benefits & pension packages. Its truely astounding the behavior that these people displayed when they were asked to contribute, truely selfish & digusting. I dont think the public sector union employees understand the level of contempt there fellow Wisconites feel for them when they apparently think that even on reduced salaries and benefits ourselves we should still pay for benefits that most of us could only dream of even during good times. No I think it took alot of guts to go up against the thugish unions & admire Walker for doing what had to be done, popular with some or not.
What created Wisconsins problem was out of control spending in the previous Doyle (democrat) administration which put us in the dire financial straits that we were in, if they wouldnt have spent like drunken sailors for 8 years the state employess benefits would never need to have been cut, recession or not, would they? But yet you see these drones go on & on about Walker, doing what he was forced to do because of Doyles spending, yet they dont say a thing about Doyle. I really think that there is a rather embarresingly large number of fellow citizens of Wisconsin who just dont "get it".

In any case, the unions agreed to make concessions, and there would have been no budget problem but for reduced revenues due to the recession and tax cuts and other "conservative" spending measures favored by Walker. Most of those spending measures were supposed to increase jobs growth ... but Walker scored an epic fail in that regard. Wisconsin was dead last in job creation last year. Number 50 out of 50 states.
Personally I'd rather fight for those who don't have retirement and health benefits, as opposed to fighting those who do have them because you don't.

This is silly of course but as far as I know the Koch brothers are paying taxes on there earnings, the same cant be said for GE can it? Who pays no taxes. But since they are big supporters of Democrats, that is ok then huh?Did the Koch Brothers run the state during the previous administration, as they do with Walker?
Did you mention Obamas Job Czar Mr Jefferly Immelt (GE) who moved a company from Milwaukee that had been there 100+ years to China? I would bet that the Obama regime is doing everything possible to try to bring Walker down and this is just one example. With that said, what do you think is going to bring more jobs to Wisconsin then, more big goverment? More big spending putting us further into debt? No doubt Walker was foolish to make such bold job predictions with this president in charge and he may eventually pay for it at the ballot box. But that is much more reason to vote him out than the narrow selfish interests of the public sector unions.
To the Obama supporters who want Walker recalled:
I was just wondering then, using the same logic you are using to recall Walker. Would you support a recall
of president Obama for cutting the militaries medical benefits (including combat pay) while not touching the Union civilian
goverment employees who support them?
That might be what would draw you there, but it would not necessarily draw a new business there. Businesses seek business friendly environments. Taxes, regulations, unions drive businesses out, not draw them in.I think what's most likely to bring more jobs to Wisconsin is a highly educated workforce and decent living conditions. I don't see slashing school spending and state services as serving those goals. Apparently the business community doesn't, either.

Please address MaggieD's last post....The point she made has been made to you and justabubba (who gave you a like for the dishonest post) before, and you seem like in this thread to simply ignore the fact, and continue the narrative anyway...That is dishonest.

No disrespect to Maggie, but the point is not valid. The unions agreed to Walker's proposed concessions conditioned on him dropping his attack on collective bargaining rights. As with any conditional offer, the rejection of the condition constitutes a rejection of the offer.
