I have to agree with you. It seems highly unlikely that he would use a word like that without knowing what it means. Can we assume that Mr. Sidarth is black?jfuh said:Didn't even know the existance of the word Macaca. But seemingly the senator does know.
I think the article said he was Native American. Unless the senator is in the habit of making up random *** words, this had to have been a racist remark. But then again, maybe he does make up random words which might be worse than being racist for a man planning on running for president.mpg said:I have to agree with you. The Senator: "Let's give a welcome to Macaca, here," Allen said. "Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia."mpg said:I have to agree with you. It seems highly unlikely that he would use a word like that without knowing what it means. Can we assume that Mr. Sidarth is black?
Sorry senator, just too much of a coincidence. Once? forgivable, twice though? I don't buy the you didn't know routine. Why? Because if you made a mistake the first time I'm certain that one of your aids would've come to tell you not to say the word again.Macaca (slur) From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Macaca (also spelled Macaque) is a dismissive epithet used by Francophone colonials in Africa for native populations of North and Subsaharan Africans. Macaca is also a code word used in the White Power Movement to refer to people of African descent.
I think you could say this is the end of his political career, that is unless the peoples of Virginia don't care.RightOfCenter said:I think the article said he was Native American. Good job on researching the term. I will emphasize further within another forum.jfuh said:The Senator: "Let's give a welcome to Macaca, here," Allen said. "Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia."
So seems that Sidarth may be an immigrant?
Now the Senator also says this: "I also made up a nickname for the cameraman, which was in no way intended to be racially derogatory. Any insinuations to the contrary are completely false."
Wow senator, interesting how your made up nick name just so happens to be a racial derogetory term. I would never have even thought of such a word as macaca. By the way here's a macaca. Sorry senator I'd elect the monkey over you.
Now here again this I didn't know either.

Oh you're right MPG, seeing as what Macaca is derogatory for someone who is black. Really had no idea about these.
I think macaca gets my vote for Weirdest Derogatory Term EVER! You could call someone this and they would have no idea what you meant by it, but that might be the point...jfuh said:The Senator: "Let's give a welcome to Macaca, here," Allen said. "Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia."

Synch said:I'm not going to argue whether it was racist or not, but assuming it is and if history repeats itself, this reference will not be Allen's detriment.
Case and point, Ray Nagin, who's statements were far more deragatory and specific.
galenrox said:Alright, there's no way in hell that George Allen knew that Macaca was a kind of monkey. Just hypocritical? Just my two cents here but isn't such a situation the definition of racism? If both comments are equally offensive and made to alternate racial groups then why is one tolerated and the other condemned? Is this not racial prejudice in action? Just a double-standard I guess, doesn't bother me personally, but I can't let it pass without pointing it out. :twocents:aps said:While hypocritical, when a black person makes a comment like Ray Nagin did, that is far more acceptable than when a white person makes a comment like George Allen made.
Did you give Joe Biden a pass when he made the following comment?aps said:While hypocritical, when a black person makes a comment like Ray Nagin did, that is far more acceptable than when a white person makes a comment like George Allen made. George Allen also has a history of having symbols that represent racism--a noose, and a Confederate flag. This may not affect his senatorial bid, but it will affect his presidential bid.
If you did, you are the hypocritical one.``I've had a great relationship. In Delaware, the largest growth in population is Indian-Americans moving from India. You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I'm not joking,'' the senator said.

Deegan said:He is just being honest, and in fact, he is correct. I don't think we need to condemn the man for pointing out the obvious, he never said it was a problem, or that he was concerned, he just stated the obvious.
Now Allen, he probably is a racist, but I am sure that those feelings are shared with his constituents, so it won't really affect his chances in Nov.
Hmm, makes you wonder if he's been having any freedom fries these days.aps said:galenrox, Allen's mother immigrated from French Tunisia, and macaca is a word that the French use. Does that make you wonder whether he truly made up the word in his head? Oh, and he speaks French.

Sorry but his mother is French and from Algeria where this is a common racial slur...He damn well knew what it meant even though it's obvious he didn't know what he was saying.galenrox said:Alright, there's no way in hell that George Allen knew that Macaca was a kind of monkey. This is not the first time that he's been accused of racially improper remarks and actions...
AAAAH....another inept comment! NO way that the Democratic party has any expectations of winning this seat...no more than the GOP have in winning Hilary's seat.Navy Pride said:Like I said in another thread.........Webb trails big time in the polls......Democrats are desperate............They would do anything to win that senate seat.......

Your comment is one of two things...either incredibly partisan (SHOCKING!) or incredibly out of touch with American politics...you choose whichever shoe fits you.
BTW - It was ALLEN who made the racist comment...the Democrats did nothing...and only people who have their own prejudices can excuse his remark because it is racist and it is wrong.
So NP...you think his comment was OK? Do you identify with that type of thinking?
