Interesting! The "waste, fraud, and abuse" train might be making a stop at Medicare as the Disgusting Abomination bill bounces around the Senate GOP caucus.

$800 billion in cuts to Medicaid is far from enough to make the bill's math work and now Elon Musk is making a stink about the bill's multi-trillion dollar additions to the deficit. Doesn't leave many options other than Medicare and/or Social Security.

Senate GOP talks cutting Medicare ‘waste, fraud’ to offset cost of Trump tax bill

Yeah, that's what happens when for decades no one has cared about the ever-rising debt and interest on the debt.

At this point the Repubs might as well blow up the whole budget. Which may be the ultimate goal.

Why would anybody have heartburn over legislation that cuts waste, fraud and abuse?

Medicare/Social security need to be off the table. Period. We all paid into it and expect a return; it is a pay it forward scheme, but nonetheless, it needs to be paid.

It seems that expanding the credit limit so that we go into deeper debt isn't seen as a problem. Can anyone tell me why?

Do it.

Cut Medicare.

I’ll grab a chair and some popcorn.

This MAGA shit show keeps getting more and more entertaining.
Any Republican voting to cut Medicare may as well consider a new career, I can envision the Democrat's ads as I type.

Because Republicans hold the Presidency.

When that isn't the case, deficit spending is the Worst Thing Ever.

Excellent.

Bring in more leopards.

Let’s start by taking the benefits away from the Red Hat Club
If we are not willing to cut the fat, the waste, fraud and abuse then we will never get the budget, the debt and our future fixed. Democrats have had opportunities to make cuts, they didn't, they currently don't have any plan to make or support any cuts.

Going into debt to improve the nation, to build and maintain the military, and provide services to those who rightfully qualify are fine as long as you find a way to pay for them. Right now the only way is eliminating waste, fraud and abuse or either huge cuts in other services, or tax increases. Not sure if there is enough W,F,A, to balance the budget and pay the debt. More likely cuts in the expenditures, what some call waste, others necessary programs. Things like financing PBS. I'd say isn't needed but others would disagres.

Cut Medicare.

Go for it.

In fact, I think MAGAs deserve a little of the pain they’re cheering on for others to come and roost in their own homes.

Nope.

Old people don’t get a special exemption.

MAGAs are willing to take food out of kid’s mouths and healthcare away from children - old people aren’t special.

Grab those bootstraps

Neither do the republicants, which is why making additional tax cuts and spending increases with their OBBB is indefensible.

BTW, the annual federal “budget” deficit increased during every year of Trump’s prior term in office.

So, they're going after waste, fraud and abuse. Similar to Medicaid? Whaat's the problem?

Yeah, that's what happens when for decades no one has cared about the ever-rising debt and interest on the debt.

Why would congress critters want to stop doing what’s getting them re-elected at a rate of over 90%?

But no one has proved "fat, waste, fraud and abuse". Claims, but no substantiation....remember?

What Senate Republicans are doing: putting another meaningless bandaid on the deficit they're increasing by those tax cuts. That this particular bandaid will hurt seniors bothers them not one whit.

No one has proved "fraud and waste" re other cuts. And there's no reason to believe this hurt-senior-Americans-in-order-to-make-the-wealthy-richer scheme will prove any different.

Wouldn't' it be better to first stop the waste, fraud and abuse before using the supposed savings to give tax breaks?

Nope, they want the tax cuts and spending increases now and ‘promise’ (pinky swear?) to make spending cuts (after the 2026 elections?) in the future.

Not when creating legislation.

Now, it would have been nice if the courts hadn't done everything they can do to PREVENT stopping fraud, waste and abuse. If that hadn't happened, then the legislation might not be necessary.

I did not know the budget legislation required the executive to stop fraud, waste and abuse equivalent to the budget cuts before the savings is spent.

The Dems reformed Medicare 15 years ago and saved trillions of dollars (and counting) in so doing.

Windfall voodoo tax cuts to campaign-donating multi-billionaires are the antithesis of this.
