For example, what legislation have the democrats allowed on the floor that Republicans support, who have proposed over 2000 bills? Here is what the Senate has considered this year.
Hurricane Sandy Funding
Violence Against Women Act
Raising the Debt Limit
Sequester Replacement
Continuing Funding Resolution
Budget
Gun Control
Internet Sales Tax
Infrastructure Spending
Farm Bill
Student Loan Interest Rate
Immigration Reform
HUD funding
Nothing in there is Republican priorities, even though they represent 31 states and 100 million citizens, theoretically.
But that has nothing to do with the use of the filibuster and everything to do with the Senate Majority Leader not taking up bills approved in the House and sent to the Senate. Once those bills come to the floor, Republicans can decent all they want.
I think I'll save this one, and see how you feel about it next year, when demos are the minority again.
The point I was making is it doesn't matter which party is in the majority in either chamber of Congress. The majority always sets the agenda and it rarely contains bills that the minority favors. Since this nation's founding, those in descent have always had to compromise with those in the ascent. That's how our Congress works - or use to anyway. Now, it's play party politics every chance you get or stonewall at every turn.
The same thing will happen when one day Republicans are once again in full control of the House, Senate, Presidency and the Supreme Court. And that's when the plutocrats will run rough-shot over the entire nation. You may as well bring back the monarchy.
Wait a minute...we're already damn near there!
Well, let me ask, if you and I needed to negotiate over something, and I went around telling everyone that you were an obstinate prick, and that everything was all your fault, then came to you and said 'come on let's sit down and hammer this out', I am pretty sure your reply would be for me to 'go 'f' myself'....Right?
I am not sure about that...I don't recall a republican president that approached the opposition quite like Obama does...
Now the Republicans have an excuse to get rid of the filibuster once they take over the Senate.
why should we expect that? How about republicans show that they are above such petty revenge politics and take the high ground.
No, not at all. Yes, I'd go into such negotiations with a high dose of skepticism and I'd likely still think you were being a jerk about thingsmrgreen , but as long as you were willing to work towards resolving the matter to both of our mutual satisfaction, I'd be okay with that.
Come now, the Republican leadership made up their minds do to everything in their power not to work with Pres. Obama even before TARP was signed and it was a bill crafted under a Republican president!
Sen. McConnell made it clear that his role to make Obama a one-term president.
So, try as you may to point the blame at the President, Republicans have far more to do with the dysfunction in Wash, DC than Democrats, IMO.
How about republicans show that they are above such petty revenge politics and take the high ground.
