Sen. Cotton repeats coronavirus origins conspiracy theory | TheHill

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) again suggested over the weekend the coronavirus could have been created in a laboratory in China, despite pushback from experts and officials.

During an appearance on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures,” Cotton commented on the rapid spread of the virus, saying: “We don’t know where it originated, and we have to get to the bottom of that.”

I have seen this story on other sites that aren't right wing sites. I suspect that it will gain traction.
 

The man is delusional....we already know who is really responsible for the coronavirus.

 

Even better - send that moron to the source in Wuhan if he wants to spread dangerous conspiracy theories as a U.S. Senator. Take a team over there and investigate all he wants.

Goodness, the GOP is just a wasteland of reckless and aggressively stupid these days.

Tom Cotton is an idiot. Nobody needs even one more conspiracy theory, we're all sick to death of this **** already.

How about we all focus on some facts for a change. Hey! That's a GREAT idea, who woulda' thunk it?

Here's some facts, maybe someone can email them to that cotton-head.

There have been 71,329 reported cases of coronavirus diagnosed worldwide, resulting in 1,775 deaths. Fifteen cases of coronavirus have been identified in the U.S. Fourteen thousand (14,000 ) people in the U.S. alone have died of the flu last year and 80,000 people worldwide have died of the flu, usually as a consequence of pneumonia.

People like Tom Cotton should put this into perspective instead of fear-mongering with conspiracy tales. More people have died because of the flu, which is much worse. We shouldn't be panicked about it but we should take precautions that will protect you and others from either the regular flu or coronavirus. Doing something as simple as washing your hands is the first avenue of defense and don't touch your face with your hands. Keep a distance from anyone that you know is sick with the flu and stay away from others when you have the flu.

Coronavirus is NOT like the flu pandemic of 1918 when 500 million people - literally 1/3rd of the world's population, died as a result of influenza. There were no vaccines to protect against influenza infection at that time and there were no antibiotics to treat secondary bacterial infections associated with influenza infections. Anything done to control the influenza worldwide was limited to home-remedies and non-pharmaceutical interventions such as isolation, quarantine, good personal hygiene, use of disinfectants, and limitations of public gatherings, which were applied unevenly. We can practice all the same methods today to prevent infection from any type of flu.
 
Word in China is the CIA did it.

It's a common and recurring theme circulated by the CCP undercover operatives throughout the society.

The Sichuan earthquake in 2008 that was 9.0 in strength, SARS, swine flu, bird flu or whatever, the USA did it. It's easy for the Chinese simpletons to accept this given they already accept the bad guy bully USA as much more powerful than China is, much more advanced in technology, science, wealth and resources, capabilities and so on.

I was in China in 2008 so many Chinese asked me about the Sichuan earthquake just to see what I'd say because if I said yes that would be accepted as gospel by 'em. I of course dismissed it which is what most Chinese asking me expected yet Chinese are taught in schools, in mass media and certainly at Party meetings never to believe a foreign devil -- not about anything. Just never ever believe any foreign devil about anything. This self protective brainwashing is entirely the work of the CCP Boyz in Beijing and the Party throughout the PRC.

So this Sen. Tom Cotton guy of the Ozarks seems to be no better than the CCP Boyz in China are. Somebody said to send Cotton to Hong Kong which would be cool as the sophisticated democratic Chinese there would laugh him off the island. HKG folk wouldn't understand his cracker twang anyway.
 

We will eventually need to nail down how this happened, but right now we need to save lives, knowing how this happened will not help with that.
 

There is a 50-50 chance that Cotton is correct. That it is the result of biological weapons research is most plausible.

If we're going to stupidly assume the cases are equivalent, then do you not realize the hypocrisy knife cuts both ways? If you were critical of the CTs about Russia, and obviously don't care about Cotton pushing BS CTs about WMDs, then you too are a hypocrite.

But the thing is, even little kids (at least IME) don't get away with childish arguments like that. What happened in some other case or what someone else did does not in fact justify actions in a different case by a different person. It's so common that we've come to expect it on every single threat, and I'm glad you bailed this one out, but we've become immune to how seriously stupid the argument is. I'd think after a while you guys would be embarrassed to have to pull this BS out to defend morons like Sen. Cotton appealing to the "idiot" base of the GOP.

Seeing as I havent commented on what Cotton said, I havent been hypocritical in the least. You, on the other hand, have been and admitted as much. So I should at least thank you for your accidental honesty.
 

Except he didn't say what they are saying he said. They are debunking something actually not said. He said there is a lab there but he didn't say it was an engineered virus. We also have labs that contain very dangerous viruses for research and other purposes.

So what we have here again, is a debunking of a false narrative.

The problem is there's absolutely NO evidence it was a bioengineered virus, versus natural, and IMO a U.S. Senator shouldn't be openly speculating about baseless, evidence free, fact free theories. The possibilities are endless. It was the RUSSIANS!! It was NORTH KOREA!!!

It was the CIA!!!! TRUMP ORDERED A BIOLOGICAL ATTACK ON CHINA TO CRIPPLE CHINESE MANUFACTURING!!!

There is as much evidence for the latter as Cotton's theories, i.e. NONE. Sen. Cotton is being reckless here.

First there is ZERO evidence the virus was created in a Chinese lab. (this CT loony tune was played during the Ebola outbreak in Africa- name the 'secret' organization and it has a lab deep in the jungle) THAT is an idiotic CT... :roll:

Now with Russia, there were multiple attacks on the system, multiple tRump workers (and kin) who bragged about Russian contacts, went to visit Russian agents for dirt on Clinton (and dismissed it as even though they went to commit a crime since there was no dirt there wasn't a crime- how many petty criminals wish they could use that 'defense')...

Other countries' intelligence services started reporting suspicious contacts between tRump officials and Russian agents.

Improperly vetted tRump officials were discovered to be agents for other nations.

tRump begged for more hacks on the Dems- dismissed as political rhetoric (from someone his supporters claimed wasn't like the other politicians)

All of that is a far hop skip and jump away from the virus CT's complete lack of verifiable facts.

Now let's knock the 'no collusion' crap off. First Mueller went out of his way to say investigating collusion wasn't a criminal matter and out of his area of investigation so there was no finding. Instead Mueller said there was attempts to coordinate between tRump officials and Russians, that tRump was very eager for that but it didn't rise to the level of a crime.

But I understand there are quite a few simple minds who don't understand what the report says (too many big words) and tRump Barking NO COLLUSION is easier to remember....

But a baseless conspiracy???? not on your Rump... eace

It isn't airborne though.

So that makes it less likely that it is man-made.
