Secret Service and Others Aghast At Trumps Brief Excursion Outside Of Hospital = placing agents in harms way of COVID19

Current and former Secret Service agents and medical professionals were aghast Sunday night at President Trump’s trip outside the hospital where he is being treated for the coronavirus, saying the president endangered those inside his SUV for a publicity stunt.

As the backlash grew, multiple aides who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe internal deliberations also called Trump’s evening outing an unnecessary risk — but said it was not surprising. Trump had said he was bored in the hospital, advisers said. He wanted to show strength after his chief of staff offered a grimmer assessment of his health than doctors, according to campaign and White House officials.

A growing number of Secret Service agents have been concerned about the president’s seeming indifference to the health risks they face when traveling with him in public, and a few reacted with outrage to the trip, asking how Trump’s desire to be seen outside his hospital suite justified the jeopardy to agents protecting him. Trump’s coronavirus diagnosis has already brought new scrutiny to his lax approach to social distancing, as public health officials scramble to trace those he may have exposed at large in-person events.

“He’s not even pretending to care now,” one agent said after the president’s jaunt outside Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to wave at supportive crowds.

“Where are the adults?” said a former Secret Service member.

They spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retribution.

White House spokesman Judd Deere defended the outing, telling reporters that “appropriate precautions were taken in the execution of this movement to protect the president and all those supporting it.” Deere said precautions included personal protective equipment, without providing further details, and added that the trip “was cleared by the medical team as safe to do.”

The White House did not immediately respond to questions from The Washington Post on Sunday night.

Trump wore a mask as he waved from the back of his vehicle, after announcing that he would “pay a little surprise to some of the great patriots that we have out on the street.” But the face covering was little comfort to doctors, who took to Twitter to criticize the trip as irresponsible. Masks “help, but they are not an impenetrable force field,” tweeted Saad B. Omer, director of the Yale Institute for Global Health.

Among critics was a doctor affiliated with Walter Reed.

“Every single person in the vehicle during that completely unnecessary Presidential ‘drive-by’ just now has to be quarantined for 14 days,” tweeted James P. Phillips, who is also a professor at George Washington University. “They might get sick. They may die. For political theater. Commanded by Trump to put their lives at risk for theater. This is insanity.”

Phillips said the risk of viral transmission inside the car is “as high as it gets outside of medical procedures.” Jonathan Reiner, a professor of medicine and surgery at George Washington University, noted that people inside a hospital wear extensive protective gear — gowns, gloves, N95 masks and more — when they will be in close contact with a coronavirus patient such as Trump.

“By taking a joy ride outside Walter Reed the president is placing his Secret Service detail at grave risk,” he tweeted.

Everyone in the President's vehicle had this same protective gear.

Let me know when hospital staff, wearing that same gear, is required to quarantine for 14 days after being near a patient. Then you can whine about the exposure those agents had.

Seriously...people just ignore reality and make shit up when it comes to trotting out negative shit about Trump.

I am no medical expert, but when I heard this, my first reaction was I thought it was humorous. I thought those hanging around outside would appreciate it.

Someone on TV mentioned he had to gets his adulation fix. That is about the appropriate level of seriousness that his little excursion warrants. There are bigger fish to fry.

Hospital staff are there to treat sick and injured people, not take people on narcissistic joy rides.

Just saw that on the news, but I didn't see any protective gear besides masks on anyone in the car. I'll have to watch more closely next time they show it.

Yeah, it's a joke.....gotta love the "condition of anonymity".....secret service members are going to do their job and not whine like a baby, sneaking off to a leftist reporter......pitiful.

This is just ridiculous.

So...that's what chaps your ass. The "joy ride".

All the nonsense about "putting people in harms way" is just that...nonsense to support what really chaps your ass.

It doesn't bother you when people make shit up as long as it supports your bias.

As y'all say...the ends justify any means.

Vehicles that transport the president are hermetically sealed. That means Trump's breath was circulating around in the SUV the whole time, putting all riders at a risk. For what? So he could get his praise and worship fix?

I think you'll need to provide a link to support that statement and that this particular Suburban has that equipment.

I can provide a link, several actually, but they all point back to the statement of one person. Therefore, for the time being, I will retract my statement.

You'll excuse me if I don't take the word of some ER Doctor over the decisions made by the President's Doctor.

The President's "State Car"...a limousine...is hermetically sealed. There is no data that I could find that establishes that this Suburban is, as well. Furthermore, the State Car has it's own environmental system, presumably including high tech air filtration. If that Suburban has the same equipment, I don't see any real risk here.

Bottom line...the President's doctor okayed this action. The SS okayed this action. All precautions were taken.

Seriously...I don't give a rat's ass about all the nonsense the media trots out, let alone the nonsense they are trotting out on this issue.

Was it as ride that served any purpose other than a political stunt/joy ride? Because the answer to that is HELL NO. This is the same political stunt notion that let him tear gas and beat up on protesters so he could hold a bible upside down on the grounds of a church that did not want to see him there.

Trump didn't tear gas anybody. That was a decision made by the justice department earlier because those protesters were not following orders given for other reasons.

In any case, Trump has every right to take a "joy ride" to thank the American people for their support and well wishes. Hell, he even gave them pizza.

But, of course, you'll find some reason to whine and cry about anything Trump does, won't you?

If the car is hermetically sealed how would anyone inside being able to breath? I can say with a fair amount of certainty that the car is equipped with a fresh air intake.

No, he ordered it, same difference. The justice department (or should I say it's leader) is so far up Trump's behind he can almost see sunlight again (especially if his idiotic boss stares into the light of the sun when experts told people not to do so.

No, he did not have the right to take a joy ride in order to infect/risk infecting more people for purely political reasons.

Well, I find things to denounce your Orange Ogre whenever he does idiotic things. Which is almost every single day.

And we have a right as citizens to criticize him for putting secret service agents at risk for doing so. More bad judgment by Trump fueled by his personal wants and whims. If you think the rest of the country is as eager to toss Trumps salad as you are you're going to get a wake up call in November.

It wasn't a joy ride. He made an appearance in a safe way that offered assurance to people who are concerned about his well being. The media has once again jumped the shark. What I wonder is how many people are gullible enough to not see through their open display of hate.

I don't see any risk to any secret service agents. They are as well protected as any medical person who might be in contact with him.
