Anyone who has ever written a single book on warfare knows that it's unwise - or for lack of a better word foolish - to hire arms. The US should do away with such a destructive activity.
Security contractors are ONLY defensive. They dont seek out the enemy. They react, respond, and retreat in order to protect their client/client interests. They take all neccesary measures to defend themselves, but never act on the OFFENSIVE. IF people are killed/wounded as a byproduct of that, that is hardly murder- it is simply defense of self/3rd person/property and is unavoidable.
that's why we should get rid of mall cops?
Let him, therefore, who would deprive himself of every chance of success, have recourse to auxiliaries, these being far more dangerous than mercenary arms, bringing ruin with them ready made. For they are united, and wholly under the control of their own officers; whereas, before mercenaries, even after gaining a victory, can do you hurt, longer time and better opportunities are needed; because, as they are made up of separate companies, raised and paid by you, he whom you place in command cannot at once acquire such authority over them as will be injurious to you. In short, with mercenaries your greatest danger is from their inertness and cowardice, with auxiliaries from their valour. Wise Princes, therefore, have always eschewed these arms, and trusted rather to their own, and have preferred defeat with the latter to victory with the former, counting that as no true victory which is gained by foreign aid.
EXACTLY. that's why they're EVIL. just like GEORGE BU$HITLER!!!!:lamo
Some days I wonder whether the average member of our military is stupid or whether they simply don't teach you the basic philosophies of warfare. Sadly, I think the answer is that the overwhelming majority aren't intellectually hungry and then there are the few and unique gems like MsSgt who drag the rest around. Tell us, when was the last time you heard of a mall cop being told to fight an armed robber? Better yet, can you tell us why mall cops aren't given guns? I'll give you a clue, they're not paid to defend a state. They're paid to give the appearance of force. Seriously, instead of posting pictures of Ben Franklin, why don't you try reading Sun Tzu or Machiavelli or maybe even Locke? That may help you not come up with ridiculously ignorant questions.

It's downright foolish to hire barbarians to defend you when your biggest problem is the barbarians outside the gates.
I have a GT score of 140, an IQ of about 136, and am finishing up my Masters Degree while getting qualified in a highly demanding job field (intelligence, in fact) to drop bombs on people. And I read those guys for fun; and so you can go get bent

blackwater was named after the swamps where their training facilities are located in the U.S.
XE contractors have to take oaths like the military, to defend the Constitution with their lives. I'm generally in favor of us synergizing with private forces to take the fight to the enemy - but I do wonder that these guys might not get used for 'domestic' purposes.
Sun Tzu was a *****, not an Operator
I doubt Columbians working for the UAE really care about the US Constitution.
actually the Catholic Church endorses Just War Theory. And I"m not Catholic, I was raised Methodist.
Yawn, yes and I'm doing my 3rd PhD in psychoanalysis of e-liars. Now, if you weren't so ridiculously ignorant of what is essentially a basic military fact, I may have believed you. However, I don't. Now, do you feel the need to tell us anything more about your supposed intelligence?
Meh, his teachings managed to work out pretty well for the guy who put China together.
The worst part is that whomever points out the most basic flaws in hiring arms is portrayed as being either anti-military or anti-corporation. I find that it's all part of the whitewashing surrounding the word 'mercenary'. They've gone from being universally known as non-patriotic (or downright disloyal) to "defenders" and "contractors". A mercenary in today's context is a trained gun for hire. Nothing more, nothing less.
Mercenaries serve their purpose. I'm not morally opposed to hiring them and I have respect for the profession, like I have respect for any warrior. I am just growing increasingly concerned with our government outsourcing our national security objectives to organizations that do not operate under the direct authority and supervision of our military. It's like prison guards. They perform an absolutely essential service, but any sensible government is going to keep those functions in-house.
i have no respect for people who kill others for a paycheck, unless, of course, they are charged with protecting our country. mercenaries and the culture that they create are dangerous.
Well, it depends
If I want to impress a christian girl with a nice upbringing, I'll tell her, I'm a contractor...but if she's a wild and crazy kinda gal, I'll her...I'm a merc.
Seriously - If I'm hired to perform a mil Op to unseat or eliminate an African dictator
I'm the bad guy or the good guy? Also, I'm going in with *no official support* or legal standing.
our military should be conducting our military ops, not civilians. the problem with mercenaries is they are neither good nor bad, but serve to keep our hands clean.

Given Blackwater's involvement with the CIA assassination program and the fact they are tasked with special operations outside the country as well as inside it makes me wonder if this is being used as a sort of continuation of the program.
Gadaffi's paying good money for mercenaries these days, and business is business.
 keep strugglin. everything I wrote is true and ric pretty much put you in your place.
given that his dynasty lasted all of 15 years - making it the shortest in Chinese history - I'm going to go ahead and say maybe not as such.
any evidence he's providing folks to quadaffi? didn't think so.
