Thankfully the US elected the most anti intellectual and anti science regime possible that also wants to scrap FEMA. And the states that helped usher this in, totally aren’t the ones that will be hit the hardest by this.

Also thankfully the NWS is being gutted as well and this totally won’t impact the ability to track any of this weather accurately.

But hey, as long as developers and oil executive scum keep hoarding wealth to then hide in their apocalypse bunker, then everything is good and that’s all that matters.

If it is science and facts, then Trumpers are out.........

Henny Youngman had a joke about this, sort of.

"Doctor said I had 6 months to live and gave the the bill. I told him I couldn't afford to pay the bill so he gave me another 6 months."

Gosh, it's almost like they're saying we're reaching a tipping point.

The elephant in the room that the left refuses to address with respect to greenhouse gasses is China. (and to a lesser extent, India). Those countries keep pumping out more greenhouse gasses, and adding new energy sources that will generate them long into the future (like inefficient coal plants). All of the work the US and other countries have done to reduce emissions is more than offset by those countries. China is now producing about half the world's greenhouse gasses, as well as a tremendous portion of particulate matter and other pollutants.

The thing is that the US's reliance on trade with them is subsidizing that pollution. China is able to produce things cheaply because they don't care about things like the environment, their people, intellectual property rights, etc. Ironically, one of the best things we could do to combat this is to make their goods more expensive (tariffs) and then tie it to them addressing those things. Trump at least got it half right.

Don't worry folks. Trump can manage the weather via Sharpie.

The US has historically been the largest emitter of Greenhouse Gases on the planet. In a lot of ways the US benefited greatly by using up the planetary budget of emitting CO2 so it is not a great argument to say but China... but India when the US is directly responsible for the majority of emissions.

The US should be leading on this... but we won't because it will affect the share price of corporations.

Republicans have a reason for fighting and for not giving a shit.

Fighting: 'cause Democrats started listening to the scientific consensus first, and that was right around Fox "democrats are demonrat pedophile" News propaganda network started up and Newt Gingrich's push for a permanent Republican majority (aka "power for power's sake, at all costs).

Not giving a shit: while more Americans will die in more extreme hurricanes, fires, etc., the truly worst will be around the equator. Guess who lives around there. That's the land that will become unlivable and arid.

Not giving a shit (b): They don't have the foresight to see how 1-2 billion people suddenly needing to move because otherwise they will 100% die - that is, moving even if they are getting shot down at a border crossing, because at least that's faster - will cause cascading global disruption in social, economic and thus financial, thus political, senses.

Republicans: they're just not sending their best people. At this point, they don't have any anyway.

Historically being the operative word. Sure, we benefitted, as did the world as a whole, from the industrial revolution. We also learned a lot since then, and have been leading the way in reducing CO2 emissions. We are continuing to increase output and reduce emissions.

China (and India) IGNORED the lessons learned by the rese of the world and are investing in dirty energy and productions. They are responsible for the majority of the world's emissions, and have been for decades. While the rest of the world decreased emissions, they increased rapidly. They are pumping out more than we ever have, and increasing. And we're subsidizing this by buying things from them that they are able to make cheaply because they don't care about the environment.

Again, if we want to reduce greenhouse gasses, we have to address the people making them.

So, a white-on-black, unattributed image proves it all? How did they "prove" it. Where is this study posted?

We can't put the onus on China when the leader in emissions for 100 years has been the US and was only surpassed by China in 2005.

China also has become the leader in solar power technology and has been able to produce a good well priced EV while the US has clung to the policy of drill, baby, drill.

The US is responsible for most of the carbon emissions that we are seeing the effects of now. We can't just wash our hands and walk away... we should be leading the way on this.

But we won't.... Wall Street wouldn't like it.

Materialism and selfishness are to blame, and that includes every single big footprint on the planet, especially in the US.. People have no problem pointing the finger, but they sure want all their crap, no matter how it gets to them: by polluting sea or by polluting air or by polluting trucks. If you want the US to be a leader in climate and environment health, start leading. Stop buying excessive trinkets and junk that you don't need

Just stop buying junk. It's really very simple. Wall Street won't like it but it starts with every individual in the US including you. Start hanging on to things, fixing stuff and not buying new stuff

I only buy stuff when I need it.

But to a larger point... this idea that climate action is solved on the individual level... that an individual person can be responsible for their own carbon footprint is what the Oil companies want you think.

The same thing is true for plastic recycling.

It is all so the big businesses who produce the large amounts of CO2 or in the case of plastic... microplastics that are infecting the entire food chain don't have to change their ways.

Trust me, the last thing Trump was thinking about when imposing tariffs is Global Warming.

Coming in a few days to N.VA, 100-degree highs with 110 feels like temps. Yea, things are warming up.

maybe. His primary concern was dependence on their cheap goods, and unfair trade advantage, but it amounts to the same thing.

It's neither - It's the Washington Post, also known as Wa 💩
????????? the scientists in the writeup are all respected in their field....so what are you complaining about????? As I said, if it deals with science or facts, trumpers are out.....

Notice the solution is never about personal accountability and shrinking your own environmental footprint rather it's always about the fossil fuel company, the auto company, the energy production company, carbon credits, etc. It's 100% political where the Democrat's green lobby get funded by the 'guilty' private sector companies.

Sadly, there's much to what you say, and until we can get to the "personal responsibility" part, the onus on big business is almost moot. I say almost, because packaging could be better, and a bunch of trinkets need not be sold here
