Excerpted from “Schwarzenegger withdraws support for offshore drilling” By Marisa Lagos, Chronicle Sacramento Bureau, San Francisco Chronicle, Monday, May 3, 2010
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today withdrew his support for a plan he championed to allow new offshore oil drilling off Santa Barbara County, citing the disastrous oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Schwarzenegger, whose administration as recently as Friday defended the proposed Tranquillon Ridge offshore drilling project, said images of the spill in the Gulf changed his mind. …
I agree jamesrage it like supporting something after a big disaster hit. I mean seriously that would be political suicide in my mind. I just doubt we will have many off shore drilling movements any time soon after what happen in Louisiana. In my opinion it is political suicide to do something like that.
It's because the opponents only need to play a single video showing the disaster and ask, "Is having gas 5 cents a gallon cheaper worth the cost?". Debate over. No drilling in my backyard. Thanks. I'll pay more for oil. No sweat.

Schwarzenegger is a Kennedy. He hates America and the very thought of American energy independence gives him the leaping heebie-jeebies, and the though that California might address it's foolish budget shortfalls by drilling for black gold is almost as scary to him as cutting the crazy spending.
The little mishap in the Gulf was caused by the failure to use proper back-up well shut-offs, and it's not sane to halt new drilling because old drilling failed to use established safety equipment.
Not to mention that the Messiah, Schwarzie's pal in Washington, already took the California coast off the "drill here" list because there's known to be plenty of oil off the shore of California. The Messiah doesn't want the US to stop funding his terrorist buddies in the Middle East by drilling our own oil instead.
Oh come on. Arnold love America just as much as the rest of us do,
and your little rhetorical rant here belies the fact that, when Arnold was running for office, Republicans couldn't get enough of him,
even turning their backs on a couple of legitimate Conservatives in order to support him so that he could defeat Davis.
You guys got what you wanted, and reaped what you sewed. Please spare me the crocodile tears.
Well, get ready for $4 gas at a store near you soon.
What this boils down to is what it has always boiled down to. A lot of people want drilling, refineries, and everything that goes along with it. They just don't want it in their own back yards. As long as it is in someone else's, they are cool with it. But is drilling really all that dangerous? In comparison to sending our money out to terrorist regimes in the Middle East, drilling may be a less dangerous option.
I'll vote "yes". Drill here, drill now, and I'll happily sail my boat around the new rigs, just like I do now with the old platforms off Seal Beach.
I don't disagree. I don't want it here (Georgia). The best solution? Just need and use less oil. Do you REALLY need an SUV?
the fears of the enviro-wackos came true regarding off shore oil drilling
Not driving an SUV doesn't help. With population growth, there still will be a growing need for oil that effects far more than just driving your vehicle. Prices of everything will go up with an increase of oil prices, since it is used to transport food, make fertilizer, make everything that is plastic, asphalt roads, roofing, tires, etc, etc. Oil touches every industry, every technology, every business, every home, and each and every one of us in one vital way or another, every single day.

Lol What does that have to do with anything? So the Kennedy's hate America, I guess Kennedy hated America so god damn much that they moved here, and settled here in the first place  I love America, and I don't want off shore drilling off the gulf coast..... The Kennedy's love America just as much as other people do. Off Shore drilling is not going to be happening anytime soon, so get over it.
But not driving an SUV will reduce demand, keeping prices low. Or more accurately, not driving millions of SUVs. The point is that there is room for eliminating waste.
You have really articulated something here that I fully agree with. One thing that really makes me crazy about my fellow liberals is that they really don't get that we face trade-offs. We can't have it all.
