....
go read post 13, and get back to us.
lpast:
1. nothing changes for anyone over the age of 55
2. there are no changes to Social Security in the 2012 budget itself. it calls for the President and Congress to examine how to make it fiscally sustainable.
3. if we don't do this now, the inevitable result will be the utter and complete ending of these programs in a few short years. pick your poison.
but yes you are probably right that this is just starting. of all our history, the baby boomers are probably the most self-absorbed and selfish generation. i would be completely unsurprised if they were willing to destroy the country in order to 'get theirs'.

We should have left the modern day carpet baggers aka tea baggers/republicans go down with wall street, it was a mistake to bail wall street and the new mafia aka banks out.
I paid into SS for years and expect to collect SS until the day I no longer need it
you can label my expectation any way you want to but I have invested with the guarantee of a return on that investment.
The Wall Street stock market ponzi scheme will eventually fail and unlike the last time won't be saved by the tax payer dollar that's when the blood sucking leeches will start jumping out of tenth floor windows.
Their is only one way to save our economy and that is through the creation of employment opportunities
stealing from SS
, medicare
only delaying the inevitable collapse of our economy while the haves steal as much as they can.
OR, if he didn't want the 'risk' of the marketplace, he could have chosen to stay with regular social (in)security. average monthly payout: about $1,100 dollars. or, roughly 1/3rd of what Joe made in our worse case scenario at age 65.

The point of my post was to contrast his WE DONT CARE ABOUT YOU statement.
With me this isnt about changes to Social Security you guys keep MISSING THE POINT entirely. Im going to try and explain my position
I know theres a need to change social security and I would be all for cuts in social security including for us already on it. The pain has to be shared, however that is NOT what I see being done by the teaparty.
Walker, Christie, Kasich, Scott all teaparty supported govs the first thing all of them did getting into office is give TAX CUTS TO THE RICH
then they attacked the working class
Paul Ryans proposal lowers the tax rate on the rich from 35% to 25% thats 25% reduction in taxs for the RICHEST AMERICANS and CORPORATIONS
while proposing to TAKE from social security medicare and medicaid and meals on wheels for seniors and school meals,
you CPWILL want to make the statement that babyboomers are selfish?
whats selfish is this 30-40 year old teaparty thang that wants to pull reverse robin hoodism on america take from the middle class and the poor and workers and give to the rich, your the GREEDY ones who want MOAR and MOAR and dont give a damn about anyone else in the process...
Here is the way I see it - If Republicans gain enough control to eliminate Social Security, then they had better damn well give me the money back that they have been taking from me for almost 50 years. If they don't, then I can damn well guarantee that senior citizens, refusing to be floated out to sea on icebergs, will declare war on the robber barons who stole their money. These are the very same assholes who smack the Democrats over statements of "redistribution of wealth", and "class warfare". If they steal the money of senior citizens, THEY will be the ones who are redistributing wealth (from old folks to corporate cronies), it WILL be class warfare, and I, like many other seniors, won't take it sitting down. You will see protests and civil disobedience the likes you have never imagined in your wildest "tea induced" hallucinations. What will you do then? Shoot us all down, in front of the entire world? Because that is the only way you will be able to stop it. Old people who have nothing to lose will be your worst nightmare.
Article is here.
NOTE 1: Just engaging in a little hyperbole here, to counteract the bat**** crazy hyperbole of Eric Cantor. I know that it will never come to this because most Republicans aren't bat**** crazy, like a few of them are. Thank God for reasonable people on both sides of the aisle. LOL.
NOTE 2: What the hell was Cantor thinking when he said what he said? Whatever drugs he was on, give me a six pack. They must be pretty damn good.
Only liberals are fearful of doing anything to social security because it's all about power to them. Everyone with a brain has known for 30 years or more that something needs to be done to SS. The bat**** crazy hyperbole is coming from the left, and frankly I'm sick of this old playbook ploy."People are entitled to their own opinions, but not to their own facts. With all due respect, what the Congresswoman is saying is simply untrue – Eric has made clear for months that he is committed to ensuring the long-term viability of these programs by addressing their solvency issues now. What's indisputable is that doing nothing – which seems to be the position of the President, his party's leaders, and Congresswoman Schakowsky – will ensure these programs remain on a path to bankruptcy, resulting in a debt-fueled economic crisis. We should be able to debate different solutions for preserving Social Security and Medicare for future generations based on intellectual honesty not demagoguery and fear campaigns. If the Congresswoman and Democrats wants to hold press events about linguistics or syntax, that’s her prerogative, but outside of Washington, Americans want to hear the truth about our fiscal situation and what their elected leaders are doing about it."
Or we could employ a rational taxation system, coupled with publicly funded elections, which would allow us to actually elect effective people who would then be beholden to us
Who would then be free to do what we elect them to do. Instead of spending half their time getting enough money to run, and the other half paying those debts back.
Then we could all be friends instead. :2wave:
Just a simple spitball of another possible option that could work, based on my extremely jaded opinion of human nature.
There's WAY too much consensus in WAY too many conservative arguments. Consensus is NOT normal human behavior.
Just sayin'.:2wave:
a rational tax system
1) everyone who votes federally has to pay federal income tax and everyone pays the same rate so no group could vote up the rates of others without feeling some pain
2) congress is restricted to the powers actually given it in the USSC
you realize the Tea Party was formed in no small part in opposition to the bailouts?
How about we pass a Constitutional amendment to nullify the 16th Amendment, and go back to apportioned taxes, and state control?
That is correct and the lionshare of support for the teaparty and its initial boost was the BABYBOOMERS that you have such disdain for CP. I went to 4 teaparty rallies and I was pumped up in supporting them and most of the people there were grayhaired working or recently retired boomers. All the speakers at the rallies I attended didnt make mention of Tax Cut after tax cuts for the richest americans and corporations being their goal and ending all entitlements or as many as they could. There was no talk at the rallies of attacking the working class AFTER you give tax cuts to the rich and corporations Like...Walker, Christie, Kasich and Rick Scott has done.
The teaparty has morphed into a wild right wing group of spoiled brats 30-45 yr olds that make enough NOT to need any entitlements and who dont want to pay a dime in taxs and dont care whether or not anyone else can or will survive.
If you think im the only one that was a teaparty supporter that is getting that perception now your kidding yourself.
the spoiled people are those who have representation without federal income taxation
Horse****, I pay taxs now and Ive paid them all my life.
so you do pay federal income taxes?
my comment was not directed at you then
Do you expect a walmart worker that makes 15000 a year to pay as much as someone making half a million ?
Do you expect a walmart worker that makes 15000 a year to pay as much as someone making half a million ?
which was in turn a response to a threat that the seniors of America would be willing to F everyone else over in order to 'get theirs'. when you threaten my nations' existance, yeah, i generally will react badly to that.
whether the Tea Party will fall behind entitlement reform is questionable. most Tea Partiers don't currently think it's necessary, and they tend to be older, and thus more easily scared. many Tea Partiers have been at the forefront of fiscal and entitlement reform; and I think most of the rest will come around eventually.
actually Democrats extended the Bush tax cuts. which was smart of them.
public sector unions aren't working class, they are pretty thoroughly upper middle class. what the anti-public-union movement has done is move to protect the worker class from their abuses of the system.
while at the same time removing the tax loopholes that they use to minimize or even totally negate their tax exposure. so their rates are lowered, but now they have to actually pay them. which is how the proposal is tax neutral. plus we get an immediate economic boost as resources are moved from tax-avoidance schemes to production and hiring.
the proposal doesn't touch social security, it makes no cuts whatsoever to medicaid, and meals are also untouched - if you like, wander on over to the breaking news blogs section where i started a thread on that particular falsehood.
yup.
cutting out and ignoring the hyperbole (i sort of imagine you right now as "the scream"), the average conservative who wants to enact these reforms is fighting for his country's survival. when you talk about destructive levels of debt on this scale you are threatning my children.
but that walmart worker would feel the bite if government raised the tax rate. that might convince walmart worker not to vote for big spending politicians. right now he will because he is told the "rich" will pay for all the spending
Feel what bite?...they dont have SQUAT...Walmart is the largest employer in the country and I most like made more than a walmart Store manager.
Your saying that a walmart worker that doesnt make enough for lifes necessities have the same percentage taken off them as me.
10 percent from a walmart worker hurts their quality of life alot more than taking 30% from someone make a half a million.
Turtledude you had better hope the day never comes that ALL walmart workerd go to the polls and vote and all public union workers that will be the day the rich will start jumping off buildings again and cutting thier wrists.
There are far more workers than there are spoiled greedy teaparty brats that want mOAR and mOAR and mOAR
T
First I think every one is confused by the term entitlement, SS is not an entitlement SS is a retirement plan that people pay into all of their working lives, Unlike Wall Street where private investors are gambling with their retirement money SS is a safe investment. Unlike Wall Street SS monies are not or should not be being used to pay CEO's huge salaries and bonuses nor to make brokers and bankers rich.
If SS is ended we will end up with a bunch of the working poor hitting their late years with no money and unable to find enough work to provide for housing and food.
But go ahead and start stealing from the citizens of this country who have paid into SS. that will sure as s--t wake up the most powerfull voting block in this country and we will send the modern day carpet baggers back into hiding for another 30 years
