Saved By Faith alone?? No.

Give us a recap of what the video says and give us your take on it. Please.

“The one who exercises faith in the Son has everlasting life.” John 3:36

Exercising faith requires action...in that sense faith is a verb...faith is proved by works...one way to show that we have faith in Jesus is by doing our best to imitate him not just in what we say but also in what we do...

Good luck with that.

Ephesians 2:8-9

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—

9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

The Bible talks about being saved by works of love, not works of the law. Real faith shows acts of love. St. James said that man is justified by works, and not by faith alone.

You are saved by faith alone.

James is not saying that works are required for salvation

Many do good works of love but they will not enter the kingdom of heaven

Matthew 7:22-23

22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’

23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

Again. Works are not required for salvation. Many do good works of love and are destined for the pit as they lack genuine faith. Genuine faith leads to works that are pleasing to God. They are a package deal.

One can not have genuine faith then not produce fruit. It’s impossible for those who are saved.

Yet those who lack genuine faith can produce works of love but they will not be saved as they lack Gods gift of grace for which you are saved by faith alone.

Your works are the consequences of your faith...

I think we agree

I'll have to examine that concept........................can one do acts of love without faith?

Yes. Plenty of people have faith who are capable of love. But they don't have faith in God.

There is plenty in the Bible to justify salvation by faith or salvation by works. But somehow the notion of God as an egomaniac who doesn’t care what we do as much as whether or not we believe is quite unappealing. I remember Jimmy Swaggert or someone like him saying that all the good she did didn’t bring Mother Theresa one step closer to heaven. To which a friend replied that if there is a line for getting into heaven, she’ll be far ahead of Jimmy.

As I understand it, we go to hell if we don’t feed the hungry, clothe the naked, welcome strangers, etc. Luther and/or some who followed him overreacted to the abuses they saw with the sale of indulgences et al.
