I just wanted to clarify this. This is simply media bias. And considering I've seen several liberals here take that and run with it, let's make this clear. Tina Fey said it, not Sarah Palin.

So knock Sarah in legit areas, but please, stop spreading lies about her.
… [T]here are a lot of stupid people who don't like Palin and have difficulties separating fact from fiction.…
No duh. Everybody knows it was a SNL skit. Its still funny though.
It obviously struck a very responsive chord with the American people.
Point?
There are a lot of people, stupid and intelligent, who do like Palin and have difficulties separating fact from fiction.
There are a lot of very intelligent people who decidedly do not like Palin and have no difficulties separating fact from fiction …
That people think Sarah Palin said something about seeing Russia from some place, her home, an island, whatever, really isn't that important to them. That she is a figure of ridicule and totally unprepared to be president; that's what's relevant.
I don't like Palin, she's a spiteful, mean spirited demagogue in my opinion, but I do know that she said you can see Russia from parts of Alaska and that proved according to her, “how small our world is.” What an idiot!
The lie did, yes... Not Palin's actual statement. The unfortunate fact is, whether it was in jest or stated seriously, many people in the media ran with that lie, which in turn resulted in a whole lot of people looking down upon, or questioning the intelligence of Sarah Palin.
When the country is in the middle of a presidential campaign, with the elections right around the corner, that kind of chit should never take place from our news media. It's absolutely disgraceful, and an embarrassment to our nation.
How about a little more context? …
… I'm really at a loss for why you feel the need to keep emphasizing this. Do you think there are people who don't know your thoughts about Palin? Is it cathartic for you to keep talking about how awful she is?
the single most overused word on this website by right wingers is LIE. By your standard, every parody is a LIE. Every imitation is a LIE. Every joke based on a real event that uses exaggeration to make a point is a LIE. When it comes to your own gods who reside upon your altar of worship, many of you have no sense of humor at all.
Parody =/= lie
If someone repeats that parody as if it were an actual statement and then others claim that that actually happened, then that is a lie.
Pretty straightforward.
Actually many people don't just as they also think Gore said he "invented" the internet which he did not.
If something is said long enough it's believed as fact by those that want to believe it.
And you sit there and pass judgment knowing perfectly that everyone who repeats that joke believes it to be true? Amazing powers you have.
Context is good. What do you think it shows?
I think it shows that Charlie Gibson himself commented from Alaska that they were close to Russia.
It shows that Palin had more to say about Russia, before and after the comment that the media used to make her look stupid.
She is more educated on Russia than "I can see Russia from my house" Or Russia can be seen from Alaska" which the media tried to portray as all Palin knew about Russia.
Your reading comprehension needs some work.
Grim: "Many people area spreading a lie about Palin."
You: "Parody isn't the same as a lie."
Me: "If someone is spreading this statement as if it actually happened, then that's a lie."
You: "How do you know that everyone who repeats that joke thinks its true?"
Nobody said that everyone who repeats this tidbit thinks its true. That's a strawman of your own making. The point is that when idiots do claim that she actually said this, they are repeating lies.
If someone repeats that parody as if it were an actual statement and then others claim that that actually happened, then that is a lie.
And you sit there and pass judgment knowing perfectly that everyone who repeats that joke believes it to be true? Amazing powers you have.
Then she should not have been so idiotic as to say you can see Russia from Alaska and that being close to Russia is good foreign policy experience.
She should have expanded on her foreign policy experience instead
She clearly was not ready for being on the national stage, she did not prepare herself for any interviews,
CHARLES GIBSON (ABC NEWS)
(Off-camera) What insight into Russian actions particularly in the last couple of weeks, does the proximity of this state give you? GOVERNOR SARAH PALIN (REPUBLICAN VICE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE)
Then she should not have been so idiotic as to say you can see Russia from Alaska and that being close to Russia is good foreign policy experience.
She should have expanded on her foreign policy experience instead
She clearly was not ready for being on the national stage, she did not prepare herself for any interviews,
My reading comprehension is just fine.
Here is what you said
Here is my response to you
I can read your words and I fully comprehend that they only have any relevance at all if you are able to know that people actually do this.
And you don't know that for a fact. You only assume they do so you can attack them for doing it.
JFC.
I someone repeats that parody as if it were an actual statement and then others claim that that actually happened, then that is a lie.
I did not say "everyone who repeats the joke is lying." I said that everyone who repeats the joke as if Palin actually said that is lying.
Get it?
What is amazing is that it is two full years later and this is still a sore spot for those on the right.
And then - with a straight face mind you - they tell us that Palin is NOT going to be the nominee in 2012.
Right.Like who else are we spending this much time on either justifying and defending or attacking at this point in time?
What's amazing is that it's two years later and there are still morons who think that Palin actually said this.
What's amazing is that it's two years later and there are still morons who think that Palin actually said this.
Nope. Because you have not cited even a single person who does what you claim is being done. Not one. You are falling back on an argument that you have yet to offer a shred of real world evidence to support.
you want the luxury of attacking people without every having to prove that such people actually exist.
Al Gore and the internet. It makes perfect sense to me why they still dominate.
