Russian-American lobbyist says he was in Trump son's meeting

-------------------------------
WASHINGTON (AP) — A Russian-American lobbyist says he attended a June 2016 meeting with President Donald Trump’s son, marking another shift in the account of a discussion that was billed as part of a Russian government effort to help the Republican’s White House campaign.

Rinat Akhmetshin confirmed his participation to The Associated Press on Friday. Akhmetshin has been reported to have ties to Russian intelligence agencies, though he denies those links.

...While Trump Jr. has confirmed that Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya was in the meeting, he did not disclose Akhmetshin’s presence. The president’s son has tried to discount the meeting, saying that he did not receive the information he was promised.

Akhmetshin said Trump Jr. asked the attorney for evidence of illicit money flowing to the Democratic National Committee, but Veselnitskaya said she didn’t have that information. She said the Trump campaign would need to research it more, and after that Trump Jr. lost interest, according to Akhmetshin.

Looks like Don Jr and the others forgot to mention a Russian lobbyist was also in on the meeting.

Now that we know the truth, I'm sure we can rely solely on everyone's account that nothing happened in this meeting - and it was no big deal at all. I'm sure we can take his word for it!

He worked with Fusion GPS, that created the Steele dossier.
Something seems to be happening, but I'm not sure what, yet.

Another one? So is this two Russian officials or three now? I can't keep up, I want to know how many people were actually at this thing. Or maybe it was a Trump rally

Well, Trump Jr assures us that it was nothing.

And I think we all know how honest, reliable and transparent he is. Even the President (who said he just heard about this a few days ago and then modified that to a few weeks ago, maybe) said so! And we know he never lies!

Latest count is three Russians.

Well either Washington is an incredibly small world or something else may be a foot.
I don't think we should rely on prejudice or the "truthiness" of the attending people, but what the evidence shows.

Wow bravo for admitting this at least.

My position has largely and mostly been evidenced based.
No evidence, no reason to change my mind.

This is new and there are other things with this guy that give me pause for concern.
His connections with Fusion GPS are awfully convenient.

I find it suspicious that this meeting had two Russians connected with cases involving sanctions implimented by the Magnitsky act, a topic of conversation with the meeting with trump junior.

Meeting with somebody who was Soviet military intelligence is "eyebrow raising", to say the least. Now, the KGB and the GRU had a rather infamous feud, but still.....

Was it important? Sure, he can support or contradict the description of events. But otherwise?

Of course, I dont think you are considering the obvious here.

If he is connected, and Russian, there's a chance he's closely linked to the source of the material in the dossier (which may not be false info).

Sounds like there's a possibility that the guy at the meeting has a direct connection to a potential source of blackmail for the candidate in question. Why do I have a feeling the talk about 'adoption' probably wasn't the main focus of the meeting?

But I'm guessing you're pretending that the Democrats set Trump up for this, but just never got around to using the info from this elaborate setup until after the GOP controlled the House, Senate and White House. A stupid theory, but then again, Trumpeteers are running out of plausible explanations.

There are multiple ways to speculate about this.
I'm not sure which to go.

Not enough information.
I've seen sources say he made up his claims of being an agent and others say he was one.

US officials suspect him of having ongoing ties with Russian intelligence.

NBC news isn't releasing his name, interestingly enough. I wonder why that is. That's not a sarcastic comment...I genuinely wonder why they're not releasing the name.

Stop assuming what I think about it.

It could confirm the Steele dossier, could do other things.
I don't know.

Maybe the "adoption" talk was partially true? If the topic of conversation was the effects of the Magnitsky sanctions, maybe the conversation was potentially the initial set up of a Quid Pro Quo.

That's because when you think you know, more stuff gets dropped and shows the Trump campaign is lying.

So you're right, its probably best not to say anything since anyone defending Trump seems to get thrown under the bus, almost on a daily basis these days.

They did release his name.

I think they have.

Donald Trump Jr. meeting featured ex-Russia intelligence officer - Business Insider

"Browder added that Akhmetshin's presence was highly significant.

"In the world of Russian intelligence, there is no such thing as a 'former intelligence officer,'" he said. "So in my opinion you had a member of Putin's secret police directly meeting with the son of the future next president of the United States asking to change US sanctions policy crucial to Putin."

Oh boy.

They did release his name.

Derp, my bad.

NBC didn't release his name, but AP did: Rinat Akhmetshin.

There are three news sources on this (AP, Business Insider and NBC), each of which has managed to fill in a space the other was lacking.

It also throws out any innocence they claimed that they didn't know she had ties to Russia because Democrats
