Funny how in one breath you libs give Reagan all the blame for creating UBL then in the next breath give Carter credit for arming the Afghan freedom fighters against the USSR.
Why is the face that he was a Democrat relevant?

Money.
Plain and simple. Right now, he has to PURCHASE the goods he gets from them. Far easier and cheaper to just TAKE them.
Why do companies but other companies?
:agree: The Ukrainian people are not a down-trodden group like we see in so many parts of the world today. They have enjoyed their independence for a long time, and they are apparently not willing to once again be under a "big daddy" regime. I don't know what prompted Putin's move, other than the fact that he may want to recreate the old glory days of the Czars and the USSR, and have everything under Moscow's thumb.
Putin has decided on Crimea as his target, and it makes me wonder why. The country is rich in natural resources, though, plus it provides much of the food for the rest of the country since the land is excellent for farming. Is it a power grab for food resources in the future? Everyone becomes a peon again like in the old days, with centralized planning from Moscow? Interesting...
Greetings, humbolt. :2wave:
It is not relevant to the OP just a drive by comment on somebody saying we take over countries all the time and would do so to Mexico.

Because politics and politicians demand polarization to stay at status quo levels or rise.
"You libs"? Go ahead and find the post where I said that. I'll wait.
Taking over Mexico is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. Moronic is too kind of a term - who is suggesting that?
A point you, and you alone are bringing up.Don't pretend you don't know that is common lib rhetoric.
"Reagan's Osama Connection
How he turned a jihadist into a terrorist kingpin.
How Reagan made a terrorist kingpin of Osama.
I think there is a vast difference between Gorbachev and KGB agent Putin. So it is hard to say what difference would it make if Reagan were in office or for that matter if Truman was in office.
Since you are unhappy with Obama here, what would you propose we do? Would you send our troops into the Ukraine?
The only person who gives a rat's ass that James ****ing Polk was a Democrat is Sawyer. I don't think anyone else is even mentioning it, since somehow Mexico came into the situation. This particular thing has nothing to do with actual politics or politicians and everything to do with Sawyer trying (poorly) to land a partisan shot.

And as per usual with you libs as you suffer defeat in debate you turn to personal attacks. Time for my breakfast anyway.
I think Obama should:
Get a Russian leader off to the side and let him know that he would have more latitude after the election.
Get out the red crayon and draw a line that nobody better cross.
Get some sleep while your embassies are burning and Ambassadors are being killed.. After all, you will have a busy day camaigning tomorrow.
Warn the crap out of Putin that there will be "costs" if you continue.
Define those costs as getting the whole world t isolate Russia
Get on the phone and have a 90 minute phone call. Be sure there are plenty of cameras around to record you being really, really, tough.
Next up" Get a whole box of big chips, put one on your shoulder and dare Putin to knock it off.
Or, you could either stay out of other peoples business, or be prepared to back your play.
Deuce

You apparently missed the sarcasm.
Putin is intent on securing their warm water ports in order to exert ever more influence over the entire area. Portraying the west as weak and unreliable serves his interests fully in that regard. Right now as we leave Afghanistan, the only way to get our heavy equipment out of there is by rail through Russia unless we put our faith in Pakistan. Who of sound mind would do that? Further, Putin is additionally securing all those fuel pipelines which serve most of the countries to the west and can bring the EU to it's knees in a day. From his perspective, there's nothing to lose here. The timing was impeccable - right after the Olympics - an expression of international comity. Nobody was looking for that. Notice the speed with which Russia moved with all the circumstances required in place. I understand Ukraine is now mobilizing. They aren't a push over, but probably no match for the Russians in the end - which shouldn't take long to reach. Eastern Europe is no doubt doing a lot of soul searching right about now.
What makes this different is we would not take over Mexico and install a pupett president. Putin is rebuilding the Soviet empire and obama's "reset" policy has been a huge failure. If Reagan was pres Putin would not do this.
That's total conjecture. I say Vietnam wouldn't have happened if Franklin Pierce was President. Maybe Obama wouldn't be acting the way he is if Stalin were still around. Either way is silly because Reagan and Stalin are both dead. What matters is not what would have happened in imaginary "What if the Holy Roman Empire were still around?"-land.
Putin is not rebuilding the Soviet Union, if he were he'd be sending in a lot more troops, and he wouldn't stop at Ukraine. Yanukovich was not a puppet installed by Putin, he was elected by citizens of Ukraine. Until Ukrainians learn to stop overthrowing whoever they don't like, there isn't going to be a democracy there. This is like the second or third time they've done this in the past 20 years, instead of having Constitutional elections.
As long as Ukraine exists the way it is, there's a decent chance of a pro-Russian President being elected. If they just go and have a revolution every time that happens, they won't have a functioning democracy.
Leave it to a lib to defend Putin.
Not sure how the title of this thread got screwed up, it's supposed to be this, maybe a mod could fix it.
Russia Moves to Deploy Troops in Ukraine
When a superpower makes a move to (re)take territory then you have very few choices even if your nation is also a superpower. What did Bush 43 do when Russia "took control of" Georgia? What, exactly, would you have Obama's telepromter do about this latest Russian adventure?
