Yahoo!"Our visit offers a new start to the development of military and technological cooperation between Egypt and Russia," Sisi told Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu.
The Soviet Union was the main supplier of arms to Egypt in the 1960s and early 1970s.
Cooperation between the two sides dropped after Israel and Egypt signed a peace treaty and Cairo began receiving generous US aid.
Russia is now keen to revive those ties and Shoigu made clear on Thursday that Moscow fully supported the tough measures taken by Sisi against Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood movement..
two sides had touched on the possibility of Russia and Egypt conducting joint military exercises and the option of the North African country's officers undergoing military training in Moscow.
Some analysts said the Kremlin had sensed a weakening of Washington's position in a vital Middle Eastern nation and was now preparing to pounce on the opportunity.
The United States will halt a $260 million cash transfer to Egypt and suspend large-scale military systems, like the F-16 aircraft, M1A1 tank parts, Harpoon anti-ship missiles and Apache helicopters. Some of the aid will be "repurposed" to benefit the Egyptian people
you should give a damn. Russian influence in the ME is not a good thing, (except for Syria -a long time client state). Russian wlll gladly take any spheres of influence abdicated by the US.Personally, I don't give a ****. Let Russia have it, America is in deep trouble here, we have our hands full.

the US has to be seen as a reliable partner -this isn't our usual interventionism, this is about the stability of Egypt, which has terrorists operating in the Sinai.
Why Obama's move was so idiotic-Egypt is the most secular Arab state, and has natural ties to western states. Allowing Russia to become a major supplier of weapons, distances our influence.
We need Eqypt's co-operation on any Israeli/Palestinian negotiations.
Eqypt is a bulwark against Islamist fundamentalism, as witnessed by the deposed Morsi, once he went into s full scale power grab.
With our destruction of Libya, this further reduces US ability to operate counter-terrorism strategy in Africa, if we lose any intelligence cooperation.
Destabilization is the policy. Wesley Clark disclosed the list of ME countries that would see regime change, been crossing them off.
respectfully, Egypt cannot be on that list -(I don't know the reference), i'd be super-surprised to see Egypt as a target of our mischief.

“This is a memo that describes how we’re going to take out seven countries in five years, starting with Iraq, and then Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and, finishing off, Iran.” I said, “Is it classified?” He said, “Yes, sir.” I said, “Well, don’t show it to me.” And I saw him a year or so ago, and I said, “You remember that?” He said, “Sir, I didn’t show you that memo! I didn’t show it to you!”
In North Africa, Obama supports his fellow "Muslim Brotherhood" and "Al Qaeda". He destabilized the region, but that's all he has achieved. And it is not surprise, that our former allies leave to Russia. Obama is enemy. Smart and consistent. He will not rest until all our allies disappear .

Only Obama ( not Congress -despite a few words by Patrick Leahy) decided on this course of action. While US law prohibits support to a junta gov't, it is conveniently ignored, in Egypt's case. So, now people who condemned US support of Egypt will condemn the withdrawal of that support?
haha
Destabilization does appear to be the policy.
Personally, I don't give a ****. Let Russia have it, America is in deep trouble here, we have our hands full.
I didn't vote to give Obama a secod chance.
This was predicted back in August of last year when the Egyptians observed that Vladimir Putin was playing chess while Obama was playing checkers.
Egypt's a mess, we're just wasting time with them. They hate us, anyway.
That is true, Egyptians have always hated Americans. The only reason American tourist were able sail down the Nile, look at the pyramids and all of the poverty for the past few decades was because of President Mubarak who protected the American and Western European tourist.
Obama threw Mubarak under the bus and there won't be too many American tourist visiting Egypt in the foreseeable future.
Lets not forget Mubarak played a key role in keeping the peace in the Middle east, he protected Israels southern flank.
Hey, it prevented another US military engagement. I rather prefer Putin taking over!!
Yahoo!
Obama unilaterally ( without calls from Congress to do so) recently suspended :
U.S. suspends significant military aid to Egypt - CNN.com
This was a blunder, un needed , allowing Russia to pounce on the opening to wedge into the ME, garnishing support from the US closest Arab ally .
Putin today also praised the Egyptian constitution, recognizing it produces "stability'; which is what most Egyptians want ( sans the Muslim Brotherhood).
Once again (like Syria) Putin is a chess player in strategic reach, while the US knocks down years of ties to Egypt like dominos -
Obama wears a dunce cap in the corner of the room watching the handshake of Sisi and Putin in Moscow.
He is single handedly allowing Russia to expand influence in the ME, for stupid, inanities reasons, being unable to comprehend realpolitik
By Obama playing checkers, he almost did get us in another war.
The way Obama is going, that war with China that shouldn't be happening for another twenty or thirty years may be moved up in the time line.
We have a ###### incompetent person sitting in the White House who is ###### clueless.
That's the point. Regime change in Syria has been a long standing US foreign policy goal. Putin saved the day. Looks like president Assad will prevail. I agree with you however about the man in the White House. But I also felt the same about bush. But then I'm not a partisan either.
