Who will be the next president and why: Hillary Clinton or Rudy Giuliani?

(Assume these two are the Presidential candidates in 2008.)
 
Probably Hillary, if those were the candidates. I just can't foresee any circumstances where America would elect someone who has never been anything higher than a mayor. Especially considering his messy personal life and his (probable) inability to turn out his own base.
 
The Democrats will have to run a candidate that at least some Republicans like. Hillary doesn't fit that description.

How many Democrats liked Bush in 2004? Not many.

Although I agree, it certainly wouldn't hurt to have a candidate that had some cross-over appeal.

Apples and Oranges. You can always count on a Republican to vote. Democrats? (in a John Stewart voice) Ehhhh, not so much.
 
Rudy, I think more Dems would cross and vote for Rudy then Reps would cross to Hilary.
 
Hillary's pro-war stance will get moderate votes on both sides of the aisle. I'm going to vote for her because I think her and Gore are the only ones qualified to run the country. The Republicans are dead in the water. No one wants anything to do with them after the last 5 years of this s.h.i.t! Their candidate will come from whomever is out on bail at that time.

Guiliani is a joke! He's President of 9/11. That is his only claim to fame. He hasn't done anything. He doesn't know anything. He cannot get specific on any issue. Because he doesn't know what the issues are about. No experience running a country on the federal level. Hillary and Gore, on the other hand, have.

Obama might be the one who takes it all. Although, he too, hasn't done anything either. But he is the only one who is clearly anti-war. And the majority of this country has made it clear they (we) are anti-war. I don't really see anyone who is pro-war having a chance in the upcoming election. Just look at how pro-war McCain is dropping like a rock.

As far as this thread is concerned, Hillary all the way!
 
I think Rudy would win in a landslide.......Most Moderates and Independents hate Hillary for the sneaky coniving woman she is........I posted a poll that showed 44% all voters would never vote for Hillary.........That is unheard of........

What? No it's not. More people simply have already formed an opinion about Hillary than most candidates.
 
If Rudy is the candidate, there could be a possibility that a lot of the religious right stay home. If that was the case then Hillary could win.

But seriously, Rudy vs Hillary? That would be just as bad as the candidates in 2004.

I would love to see a Hilary v. Giuliani race. Either way, the right-wing loses. We get someone who is moderate in the whitehouse (although I would prefer a true liberal) and we get rid of the joke of a President in the clown that we have now. Either way...its a win/win situation.

For Rudy, its his own little "perfect storm" of occurances and timing.

This is Hillary's year. Hillary's allies in the DNC power structure are throwing everything behind Hillary, and this is their big push. They control enough of the DNC to win in the primaries despite a respectable showing from Obama. So, part of the perfect storm, is that Hillary is the Dem Nominee for sure. This creates part of the 2008 playing field. As it is obvious that Hillary will be the Dem Nominee, and have a very strong national apparatus and chance of winning, the republicans will sense a real threat here. This will beg the question of the Republicans, "who do you have that can beat Hillary ?". During the primary, it will become apparent that only Rudy can defeat Hillary, made ever more obvious by the fact that he is the only primary contender that can take New York in the general. Republicans in America did not like losing the midterms, and they will be serious about winning in 08, rather than idealistic about adherance to party platform. Winning with Rudy will be more attractive than losing with any pro-lifer . The GoP will circle the wagons and nominate Rudy, holding their peace on the bible thumper issues for the time being. Once nominated, Rudy easily wins the general, since he takes New York, and the Dems count on NY in every victory scenario they have.

According to the 2006 mid-terms, this country wants nothing to do with Republicans. American's would vote for Charles Manson before they vote for another Republican. Get real!
 
Whoever wins the election will be a solid choice, even if the best candidate, Mitt Romney, can't even win his own primary.

There will be a lot of pressure riding upon the winning President to perform.

Hillary has experience and thus she could get a lot done. Rudy Giuliani would be helped greatly if Condi was his VP since she has WH experience, not to mention she may swing the black vote.

That's a ridiculous assumption, but:

Neither are very likable from the American people's point of view, but if was between these two, I would expect the race to go to Hilary, simply because Democrats like her. Rudy could be quite a bit more popular in his very own party, much less the rest of America.

I'm not sure what Guiliani even stands for. I know he was hawkish on the war in Iraq, and if elected it's probably a safe bet we'll be in for four more years of war in Iraq.

But other than that, what is his policies? I went to his "exploratory" website, it was devoid of any information on his take on the issues.
