This is even more releavant today, His points are right on.

Watch it, the parrells are staggering, and he speaks to the motivation behind UHC, and its socialist ideals.

Listen to the whole thing, the last 30 seconds... Hauntingly familiar to today....

One of the greatest contributors to deregulation speaks out on why increasing competition to balance industry corruption is a bad thing.

This guy is the talking head for the corporate lobby, and the poster boy of the modern recession.

I figured a resident hyper-partisan would come in here and attack the messenger.

Did Reagan read the recent bill pushed through congress? No.

So how is this video relevant to now? It isn't.

Just more talking about socialism, yada yada.

Did you even watch the video, or are you just trolling?

That speech is another reason Reagan will go down as one of, if not the, greatest presidents ever known.

If Ronald Reagan had been aware of George W. Bush's presidency, he would have been thankful. Bush saved Reagan from being the worst president ever.

Who cares what he thought about socialized medicine. Reagan was just a snake oil salesman, a pitchman for special interests.

It would be nice if people actually listened and commented... sigh....

I did listen. That was my mistake.

Most of what he says has already been addressed or debunked before.

And your boy Carter, who promoted socialized healthcare during the 1980 Prez debates, sleeps with the Communist Manifesto under his pillow.

I think it was a perfect speech.

Reagan chose a topic, knew the specific facts of its history and presented them, knew the current situation and spoke on it articulately, then made reasonable predictions of its future.

He predicted and addressed counter arguments. He used relevant quotes, numbers, and examples to get his point across. He used all the modes of persuasion, pathos, logos, and ethos, as a good speech should.

Whether anyone agrees with its content or not, it was a perfectly given speech.

And yet we didn't fall to communism even though we passed medicare and medicaid. Reagan was off base here and time sure has played out how wrong he was.

Lets listen to some of Reagan's other prophecies

bill mahr? /facepalm

Maher. What's wrong you have a problem with humor? Reagan was offbase on his railing against medicare and was playing the fear card. Notice we're not being told which jobs to work in as Reagan claimed we would. All that fear and paranoia didn't play out.

I just expected you and others to discuss reagans words before you tried to make me listed to that Maher idiot.

Maher is no more funny than he is a "libertarian"

 Now you're accusing someone else of not being a libertarian you're really on a roll today.

Okay lets reiterate Reagan's fearmongering didn't come to fruition. You must remember Reagan was railing against medicare. Yet medicare passed and we're not on that "slippery slope". We're not being told what jobs we can do and none of the doomsday things Reagan spoke of.

He's not. Prove me wrong.

He's pro minimum wage

He's pro affirmative action

He's pro department of education

He's anti 2nd amendment

He's pro government funded abortions

He's an environmentalist and is for government intervention

He sir, is no Liberarian. Let's see you list showing he is.

your attempt to link your wrong argument in the other thread, to this one is FAIL

 perhaps it was the groundworl Reagan laid that his nonsense did not come to fruition, yet is being discussed again today and failing.

Having read probably thousands of your posts on various issues over the years, Maher is as libertarian as you are.

Really, how so. I'd hate to have to call you out for lying. :2wave:
I can't say I have ever seen many of your posts railing against warrant-less wiretaps, preemptive war, the size of our defense budgets and so on.

You have just always struck me as a typical hard core republican that calls themselves libertarian because they think it sounds cooler. ;)
