Ron DeSantis uses ‘monkey’ to describe Andrew Gillum agenda; Democrats brand it racist

So apparently this story has blown up, it has even made it to the front page of Canadian news sites. Good job Florida.

I think you mean " good job outrage merchants"

No doubt. And heaven forbid the bath remodeler owns any monkey wrenches. Nothing worse than racist tools. :un::

ETA: Oh, and way past time that we knock down the monkey bars at our public schools.
Simply trying to smear him as racist, if the primary was any indication, DeSantis is our next Gov.
He got over 400,000 more votes than Gillum.

I mentioned this last night. In comparison to the Republicans who showed up, the Dems decided to stay home. The midterms apparently aren't their thing.

Too funny. RW-ers are really worried about Gillum.

As my Air Force Dad always said, ‘We Shall What We Shall See’.

The Georgia/Florida Governor’s Races will be a lethal one/two to Republicans.

This is kind of par for the course for Florida. That is why this blew up.
No. It "blew up" because Democrats and their propaganda tools in the media kept ignorantly reporting that DeSantis' comment was racist. It's a lie, and anyone with at least a 5th grade education know it's a lie. Orwell couldn't have dreamed up **** this twisted.

They don't have to aim that hard. We aren't talking about Hiroshima or Nagasaki here. The weapons then and now are many times more powerful. Our town was located in a state between two major cities with major ports with several naval and air bases and facilities, key defense contractors and arms manufacturers nearby. So we would likely be pretty well bracketed all around or saturated with several blasts. If the town wasn't already flattened and or burning we would surely be blanketed with heavy radioactive nuclear fallout in fairly short time. Probably mere minutes at the most. I used have some bad dreams about it. The funny thing thing is rather than being about the horrible destruction. They generally started with myself being outside maybe in the playground or on my way to a friends house and suddenly there would be a big flash and bang. When I would get myself back off the ground I would see this big angry mushroom cloud roaring up into sky off in the distance somewhere. Immediately I would start fretting about about where do i go? What do I do? Where's my family? How am I going find them? Do I even have time to find them? Those were my biggest fears.

Too funny. RW-ers are really worried about Gillum.

Republicans, Conservatives, and Libertarian Rightists are really worried about every individual 🗳

Hence, their Dear Leader now Threatens Violence.

Odd thing to say considering it's LW-ers who are lying about DeSantis' comment being racist.

DeSantis being Rasict Scum and a Homophobic Bigot is Settled History.

Let’s throw Green-Algae Blobs at DeSantis and Rik Scott, the Greedy Obstructionist Polluters Responsible for Catastrophically Wrecking our environment.

The IQ for some in this country has gone down. The phrase has nothing to do with race. imo, those that play the "race card" before really looking at the context and education themselves are the ones with a racist problem.

Let people that actually live in Fl handle it. Did you know typing paper and cheerios are also racist?

Not really, DeSantis got over 400,000 more votes.

You have to look at the total amount of people voting in primaries. Since the voting is spread across many different candidates. I would guess roughly the same number of people turned out for both parties.

But, remember most people flat out do not vote in a midterm primary for Governor. Most can barely be arsed to vote in the general for a President.

It would seem that no one can have a poor choice of words without being deemed a racist nowadays.

Yeh...some of us are getting damn sick and tired of the poor choice of words. What's the excuse? Lousy education? Inability to say something without it sounding like bs? Have no problem with poor choices of words....just have a major problem with how they are used over and over. Get smart. Say what you mean and mean it.

You go the message didn't you? He called Gillium a monkey. By saying to voters not to "monkey it up". There are plenty of other words he could have used that do not denigrate blacks. Can you at least admit that?

I didn't knew people are verbs. How can you attribute an action verb to name calling? If I said "you better not jack it up" am I calling you a nazi?

Seems a common phrase. If using it is a "stupid remark" - it is only because of the far more stupid offense that some take to benign language.

My grandmother when I was 6 or 7 years old when my brother & I would misbehave would smack us good & yell
'stop the monkey business right now' and we knew what she meant. It had nothing to do with race.

The only time I felt it was used in a derogitory manner was when Muhammed Ali was about to fight Frazier when he
poetically beamed 'It will be a killer and a thriller when I get the gorilla in Manila." That must have hurt Frazier,
Ali always bragging about how pretty he was compaed Frazier looks negatively to his own but Ali was always throwing out
nicknames. In his last successful defense he fought Ernie Shavers who was bald & thus Ali deemed him 'the Acorn'
& in prefight press conferences Ali would playfully rub the Acorns head.

Some will want to deem DeSantis remarks racist. I don't see it that way. I rarely read something into remarks that
obviously are not intended by the remarker. No offense was intended none should be taken.

Outright, delusional lie.

The words speak for themselves. Any idiot can see that. Denying it changes nothing. Whens the last time you heard the term "monkey it up"? Screw it up? Yes . Muck it up? Yes. But I have never heard that term used before this.

So what WAS the purpose of inventing the term "Monkey it up" then? What did it rhyme with?

It has been helpfully explained to you what a verb is, but don't let that stand in the way.

As I heard another person say at one point on this...

Was it racist? Probably not. Was it abundantly stupid? Absolutely yes.

I think him screwing up the mixture of two idioms ("throwing a monkey wrench in..." or "monkeying around with" and "mucking up") is FAR more likely than him trying to suggest an out and out racist notion of Gillum and a monkey. I think immediately jumping to racist is a stretch, and occurring almost singularly because he's a Republican and more than ever the attempted presentation by various folks in this country is Republicans inherently mean you're a closet racist or harbor such thoughts/beliefs. However, I do think it's profounding stupid to even get near that word, especially as a Republican, if your opponent is black because it's beyond obvious how it's going to be presented and interpreted and viewed by those looking to help the other side. It's bad judgement, bad politicking, and bad choice of words, all of which are hardly commendable traits or critiques of a man running for Governor.
