Rob Reiner's film panicking about Christian nationalism warrants Oscar for religiophobia

I don;t see any preachers at the courthouse
Our Supreme Court has at least three ideologues sitting on it right now. People that no doubt (in earnest) “consult” their faith to reach decisions they must reach as part of their job.

Many people justify this by saying things like our nation was founded as a Christian nation, it’s on our money (since the civil war), in our pledge of allegiance (since the red scare in the 50’s), and that the founding fathers we’re Christian’s (a few were but most weren’t.)

Christianity as a religious entity is a top down authoritarian organization. The founding fathers recognized this by seeing what the failed experiments of the Puritans (and others) had produced, and intentionally steered us toward a secular form of government, because there was plenty of evidence for what authoritarian systems did to societies, both modern and ancient.

Rob Reiner's nickname of "Meathead" isn't an accident.

Christian nationalism!! white supremecy nationalism! only the left views nationalism as a threat
The description for the documentary states that the film "looks at the implications of Christian Nationalism and how it distorts not only our constitutional republic, but Christianity itself." The summary also noted that the film features "prominent Christian thought leaders" and "asks this question: What happens when a faith built on love, sacrifice, and forgiveness grows political tentacles, conflating power, money, and belief into hyper-nationalism?"

"’God and Country’ is about an alleged threat to American democracy posed by so-called Christian nationalists. The Meathead would have the audience believe that we are on the verge of a theocratic takeover, though few outside of Hollywood and other secular subcultures pay any attention to this fable."

The Catholic civil rights leader also argued that the Founding Fathers "did not want the establishment of a Christian nation, but it is also true that they recognized, and indeed applauded, the founding of a Christian-inspired nation."

"Here’s the good news. ‘God and Country’ is a bomb," Donohue wrote. "It took in a whopping $38,415 in its first weekend—over four-days—playing in 85 theaters. As one movie critic put it, this means it averaged $451 per theater, a stunning achievement, even for the Meathead."

The Christian Post, also shredded the film.

"The premise of the film is schizophrenic, demonizing Christians with inflammatory insinuations that invoke the Third Reich, while at the same time deriding them for having a persecution complex because they fear a growing cultural hostility."

Haven't seen the movie, however, as pertains to Christian Nationalism.....

In that order.

Some, not all but some, who label themselves as Republican or Conservative, HATE . . .

White People who don't believe the same crap as they do - never mind those Others of different skin colours.

Christians who don't hold the same theological beliefs as they embrace

Capitalists who believe in protecting the environment and helping other humans to rise up by supporting education
and
they really, really hate an America that doesn't fit into their rather fascistic worldview -- but what do I know about those 'True Americans' worldview - obviously I only read the radical leftwing, totally biased Lamestream Media, only watch the super socialistic MSNBC and ignore the real news that I could find on 'real' media outlets.

Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis is a compelling exploration of the Christian faith, presenting the core beliefs and values shared by all Christians.
What i have been doing. distilling my esoteric religious belief down to core ideas
I'm way past "exploring" and am concerned with faith as bedrock understanding capable of being challenged

Now about that Buddhism...the dharma is only as important as your understanding

Maybe. Are you aware of the meaning behind the title?

True if you’re Archie Bunker, a racist, misogynist, conservative, frightened man.
You should read about what the actor Carrol O’Connor thought about playing the character, his trepidation and dislike for the character. He was just a good actor.

same with all religions and systems. The trick is to get beyond all systems to the lived experience of what they can only point to.
That said, the Buddhist system is pretty clean, and actually incorporates this idea into its teachings.
