“Representative Brian Mast, the Florida Republican who chairs the committee, introduced a sweeping authorization bill that would that includes myriad measures pertaining to the State Department, including one piece that would give Secretary of State Marco Rubio greater authority to revoke American passports for those who have supported foreign terrorist organizations.”

Fortunately, Rep. Mast backtracked but the fact that he even proposed and pushed for this legislation should be alarming to all real Americans.

Btw, Mast should register as a foreign agent or, better yet, move to Israel and serve in Bibi’s cabinet. It’d be nice to have a Congress in which most of its members put the interests of America first instead of the interests of another country.

I don't see evidence of the "backtrack", and I wouldn't trust it to happen.

Prohibiting dissidents from travel is core Soviet policy, and you know how closely the Trump administration likes to track the old Soviet Union...

So, prevent people from leaving the US?

Is that what is being proposed?

That's not even new. They've been doing East Germany style prosecutions - essentially the same legal theory - against people who planned to go join ISIS ever since that organization started making the news.

The distinction here is not having to PROVE anything before doing it. Passports become a begging interaction, pleading, saying that you are really truly totally Trumper and serving the Trump economic interest with your voyage.

You can't travel to foreign countries without a passport, But that's okay, if you did you couldn't come back without a passport.

Makes zero sense.

And I suppose the US government does not consider the Israeli government a terrorist organization despite the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who have been terrorized by Israel, and are currently being penned in and starved to death like they are in WWII German concentration camps.

Every authoritarian regime controls entrance and exit across the borders in arbitrary and capricious ways.

There is a provision within the Patriot Act that says all the government has to do is declare someone - anyone- a terrorist and all their constitutional protections go right out the window. No access to legal counsel, no access to courts, no due process whatsoever. They can be tortured and forced to sign coerced confessions. All in the name of national security.

It won't be too long before the government will figure out a way to strip anyone of their citizenship administratively.

This needs to be blocked and Mast needs to be removed from office and deported to Flor-I-duh.
