Report: Rosenstein Discussed Wearing A Wire In Meetings With Trump



Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein discussed wearing a wire to record President Donald Trump and volunteered to recruit cabinet officials to potentially remove the Republican from office, according to a bombshell report from The New York Times.

Rosenstein made the remarks in meetings with Department of Justice and FBI officials shortly after the May 9, 2017 firing of James Comey as FBI director, The Times reported Friday. Rosenstein took part in Comey’s ouster, writing a letter recommending that he be fired because of his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

I don't know about that. The claim that it was all in jest could well be accurate. If it was a joke, however, it does indicate that a rather dark underbelly of "deep state" really does exist.

Getting rid of Rosenstein won't prevent the declassification from happening. In fact, it would get rid of a roadblock to the declassification.

Makes little to no sense that Rosenstein was seriously looking for alliances within the department. He was already Dep. AG. If he was going to wear a wire, he would simply have done it. Is there anybody in this thread that was ever a boss before! You don't go whimpering to your underlings looking for support for something you are seriously considering doing. You just do it and take the consequences if there are consequences. He would not have been musing about it seriously with Asst. Dep. AG level associates and similar level members of the FBI. FBI works for Justice, not the other way around.

I believe he said it. However, I simply do not believe the likelihood of Rosenstein seriously discussing such a topic in that group and in that context. He would not have been looking for assistance and he would not have needed it. If he was serious he would have simply worn the wire. Nobody would have known about it until they were hearing tape recordings from his having worn the wire.

Associates of Rosenstein have already commented that the guy is dry as dust and I expect he takes some getting used to.

Even the 25th amendment topic. The 25th amendment is such a high bar and your only path to it is through the cabinet. Good luck with that one. The President would likely have had to have installed a trapeze in the front hall of the WH and been swinging from it to pull that one off. Do we not think Rosenstein knows this?
