I wonder what they thought about women and blacks in the service way back when too.
On a side note, I notice two things whenever a draft is mentioned.
First, its always the people who DONT have to go who are advocating for a draft.
Second, the people who would actually have to go and fight dont get to decide if there should be a draft.
Does this seem screwed up to anybody else?
This would really get the attention of the Bleeding Heart Liberals who feel that DADT should be repealed.........If that happened that would mean some of you young people would be able to see how it feels.......I wonder if you might change your mind on the issue.....

Myself, I would heed the wise council of my generals and officers in the field.
I know some politicians have caught heat for not doing so in the past.
Regardless of what I think, or anyone else for that matter, the priority, as I see it, is to maintain an efficient military and our national security. Politics and opinions and political correctness be damned.
The last I heard, the military big-wigs have said that today's military is far more tolerant towards gays than the miltary of the past.
I totally see where Navy is coming from in regard to the old school sailors, soldiers, marines, etc. There are many older "lifers" that I am certain take objection to gays serving openly. I am certain they will take exception to the change and quite possibly resign, retire or out right quit. We can only speculate.
Regardless of their piss-poor attitude towards change and the restricting of gays to openly serve, their experience and value to our military cannot be over-looked. One has to take that into consideration as it directly affects national security.
But, on the other hand, a more progressive approach towards this issue might be attractive to an equal percentage of prospective men and women willing to serve in uniform. It might take years to gain the valuable experience to replace those experienced military people, who adamently opposes the gay plight, but in time it will become a non-issue. Again, we can only speculate. The question is, with two wars going on, is this the time to chance losing these experienced military people?
I know of no factual statistics that either deny or validate the notion that if gays are allowed to openly serve, military personnel will quit in droves. If anyone has anything other than an opinion, I would very much be interested in their evidence.
Such decisions are far above my pay grade. I will put my faith in our commanders. And they say to tear down the gay wall.
Whether I like it or not is irrevelant.

Hey, they can draft me any day. But I'm going to serve openly, and if they don't like it they can kick me out. I'm not a coward like the United State military is.
I'd have taken it back then if I could. I have no objection against war and I'm not especially afraid of death or dying. What I don't want is to be forced into a meat-grinder situation against my will.I did, I am just giving you and option.........A lot of guys just like you took advantage of it during Vietnam...
You need some new talking points my left wing friend, those are old and stale and have been discounted over and over again........
You can always run and hide in Canada........
Nowadays that and 6 bucks will get you a cup of coffee. Some people have morals and integrity..........
Pat Tillman isn't laughing. No, they're laughing at all the accidental shootings that will occur in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Like I said Senior Officer and enlisted will leave the service in droves........
No one will want to enlist...............
Yeah, perhaps alot of gay-haters will have to do that.:rofl
Don't know any personally... Unlike people like you don't like calling names
That said the straight people would honor their draft requirement...no need to hide in Canada
But enlistments are up beyond the capacity for processing them. I know two young men who waited the better part of a year to go to boot camp. One of them finished a couple months ago and is now a Marine.
Enlistment bonuses are a thing of the past, but still young men and women are signing up in droves. Given the polls that reflect more tolerant attitudes among younger people, it wouldn't seem a great number would change their mind if DADT was repealed.
Nowadays that and 6 bucks will get you a cup of coffee.
What does morals and integrity have to do with finding a civilian job?
They have also lowered the standards to meet their requirement to.......Lower GCTs and physical standards...not good, especially in the army.........
actually that is false......I posted a poll taken of active duty military a couple of pages back ....you should read it.........it was strongly against lifting DADT and that included the younger people to......I talk to military members all the time so I knew that already.....you should go back and check it out.......
Yeah, perhaps alot of gay-haters will have to do that.:rofl
So do you oppose women in serving?
Your poll was worthless. It was not scientific. Nor are your conversations with people.
I opposed women serving on Navy Combatents....I don't oppose women serving.......
Yeah because it proved you wrong.....If it had been in your favor you would be singing a different tune.......
They have also lowered the standards to meet their requirement to.......Lower GCTs and physical standards...not good, especially in the army.........

They lowered standards during the Bush administration because the military couldn't come close to fulfilling enlistment quotas, hence the large enlistment bonuses, which have now been withdrawn.
Which poll? I saw you post one wherein veterans responded. The only active duty poll I've seen here is that done by Zogby in 2006. If I missed it, could you please reply with the post number?
